$300 from partmaster off the shelf for belt, tensioner and water pump, not too bad,

thejazzpianoma, Aug 25, 9:48pm
That's pretty good for NZ, known parts, easy returns (not that you should need to hopefully) and overnight courier. That's a big part of why I like VW stuff. parts are so reasonably priced!

Cheers for that Quattro, you really know your stuff!

BTW, do you work for a VW specialist, own your own shop or whats the go if you don't mind me asking!

Yea works out alright for me, do a cambelt and water pump and tensioner for $600 incl parts

Must be photo-shopped, Euro cars are bulletproof

intrade, Oct 7, 2:35pm
engine parts you ring eml euro marketing but you want a other engine looking at the pictures. i guess the boors are damaged also and the pistons nuked!

intrade, Oct 7, 2:39pm
hope you only payd like 200$ for the car they are real old and loads of em i have seen neglected on scrap metal collection trucks. otherwise your probably best to scrap it now especially if its automatic.

Don't worry parts are cheap because they rarely break. They are bomb proof so the salesman tells us.

thejazzpianoma, Oct 7, 3:26pm
Yeah new engine would be the go I reckon given the tops have snapped off the valves and all. Shouldn't be too hard to find.

00Quattro00 might have some ideas regarding who may have one. Sorry I am not much help for secondhand bits, I generally only use new parts and don't get in to major swaps on old stuff anymore.

One place I would try though is that Platinum outfit in Rotorua if they are still going, that guy is well connected and has secondhand stuff. Qualitat might be worth a call as they may be able to suggest someone who is wrecking one, I don't think they dismantle themselves.

Yeah the pistons all appear ok but the bore is a little dubious on one cylinder, think it would be safer to just replace motor. On the plus side it took less than two hours to get the head off, found it much easier to work on than a lot of jappers i've done in the past

Sadly, neglect will cause this damage to any interference engine, euro or otherwise

I.know just taking the Mickey for the salesman. Wink
