hi guys and gals i just sold my car on here tolikcromand the people rang my saying they will hit buy now.
but once they have done that they called me back saying they want to view the car firstNote: this is after hitting buy now.

im furious, can i do anything about this

angel_eyes_ef7, Aug 22, 5:51pm
wasting my time is what they are doing by the sound of it

mantagsi, Aug 22, 5:55pm
To make a long story short, no, not really. I know when you place a bid etc it says you are 'legally bound' etc but people back out all the time, and there isn't really a whole lot you can do sorry :( You might have had a blessing in disguise, maybe it is a good thing you don't have to deal with selling something to people like that!

motorboy2011, Aug 22, 6:01pm
screw that, id relist it straight away and blacklist them. on a side note I would also add in the auction that viewing is recommended, but if you choose to hit the buy now its yours

joanie32, Aug 22, 6:04pm
I sold a go kart with buy now, then when loser turned up he tried to crunch the price down. $300 item FFs

moosie_21, Aug 22, 6:07pm
Start new auction, blacklist the idiots, request funds back from TM, move on with life. Trust me, you don't want to deal with those kinds of people, they will only cause hassle after hassle. I can see them coming back in 3 months asking for a total refund because they blew the engine doing burnouts.

motorboy2011, Aug 22, 6:23pm
I had similar years ago, listed a phone at $1 reserve seeing didnt know if it went or not, said to bid assuming it was broken. the winning bidder emailed me and said he'd be over in the weekend to test the phone and that if it didnt go he would not get it as it was too much to pay for a broken phone! funny thing was, I ended up testing the ph and it did work, so I emailed him and said it works, but that his winning bid was not enough for it now seeingit did work. he had the nerve to email me back and tell me that I was a con artist and that he had one the auction so he wanted it!

friendly_prawn, Aug 22, 6:25pm
Well im of a different opinion than others.
Let them come and let them view it. If you were honest about the discription there should be no reason for them to back out.
If I were buying a car through an auction, regardless of whether I had viewed first or not, I would still want to inspect the car and test drive before handing over any money.
Im afraid I dont trust anyone I dont know.
Lets say I viewed the car when the aucton first started. Who's to say the car hasnt developed engine problems while the auction was running!

If a seller refused to let me make sure I was happy with my purchase then I would be quite worried. There are stories of people that have paid for a car after an auction has closed only to find the mags have been swapped, or there were other undisclosed issues. And some times its just not practicle to vew first.

But then i wouldnt bid on an auction unless an after auction inspection was available.

Also I dont think you buyers would be showing up with money in hand to look at their purchase if they werent going to go through with it. They sound genuine to me. Let them come look.

I'm with fp on this one, too many times the item simply isn't what was described in the auction.

motorboy2011, Aug 22, 6:32pm
I liken this to people hitting the buy now than emailing to say they will pay in a week and a half when they get paid

kngfhrt, Aug 22, 6:42pm
just read one of likcrom replys on one of his negitive feedbacks"wasn't happy with purchase but because I won the Auction I went ahead and done the right thing I purchased the carpets"this was nearly a year ago. personally id give this trader the benefit of the doubt, but hey Im not you.

angel_eyes_ef7, Aug 22, 6:51pm
thank you all this has really helped

msigg, Aug 22, 6:57pm
Yea friendly prawn is correctin the real world, before handing any money over you do want to drive the car to see how it goes. You would be a bit stupid if you didnt and then bought it and found that it dosn't go, no good going back to the seller then when he has done a runner, no small claims court can actually get your money back, if your not here.

richynuts, Aug 22, 7:32pm
They have to buy car NOW, they have pushed buy now so no test drive first to make up their mind! People are just plain lazy to view nowdays, I sold a car by auction 5 different bidders, not one phone call from anyoneto view the car first (and yes my numbers were listed) I made several comments on auction please view the car first before placing bid. anyhow lady turned up cash in hand, paid and drove off happy as.go figure!

hijacka, Aug 22, 10:16pm
Pain in ass i know! Could be a strategy that this trader is using so she can come over and kick the tyres to get a cheaper deal! imo knowing that your auction is no longer listed eliminates the possibilities of any other buyers/bidders knocking on your door. If it was me i would relist straight away. Also i would send likcrom a email stating that you have relisted and invite likcrom to view the car first so she can makesure she is 100% happy with the cars condition before using Buy Now/Purchasing it.
Whats the auction number!

There is no "have to buy" at all. If they turn up and the car is not as it was described in the auction, they are perfectly entitiled to walk away.

Also, despite what trademe states, there is no legal contract forcing a buyer or seller to complete the sale.
Feel free to prove me wrong, but no signature means no contract, and none of us signed anything when we joined trademe.

friendly_prawn, Aug 23, 5:43am
The fact you agree to trademe's terms and conditions when you joined would be seen as having a contract with trademe. But that aside, and regardless if I am mistaken or not with tht comment, I agree totally no one in their right mind is going to pay for something that isnt as described.
Unless of course they are silly enough to hand over the money with out seeing what they are buying. Then they run a huge risk.

friendly_prawn, Aug 23, 5:52am
And as a seller I think I should be able to put what ever conditions I want on my auctions. If its view first or dont bid. Then thats what it should be.
unforutnately people dont listen. People will buy with out viewing.
Jsut a fact of life.
That being the case what do car sellers have to lose letting the buyer view what they have bought! To blatantly refuse, they run the risk of the buyer walking and giving them a reddy.
If they agree, whats the worst that can happen!

Unless of course the seller has something to hide!

friendly_prawn, Aug 23, 5:55am
Funny enough I have over 30 watchers on my listing and no one has actually showed up to see it yet.
And I do put my money where my mouth is. I'll be expecting any one that wins my auction to come on over and jump in it and go for a ride around the block to make sure i havent lied about anything.
And I have no problems with that. I think it is as it should be. :-)

friendly_prawn, Aug 23, 6:35am
haha I love this, the listing had no description of the vehicle and was worded:

"we therefore have no idea of its mechanical condition, no warranty expressed or implied. Top bid will own the vehicle we strongly recommend buyers inspect vehicles prior to bidding"

Anyone buying any listings as above with out viewing first deserves any major defects the vehicle may have.

splinter67, Aug 23, 6:42am
Id buy it but it aint got a rota in it LOL

friendly_prawn, Aug 23, 6:46am
lol. I think I would be too scared to list a Ford with a rotary in it. Can you imagine the q's and a's.

splinter67, Aug 23, 6:50am
aww come on it would be great humor

friendly_prawn, Aug 23, 7:03am
lol, yeah I reckon.
We should actually do it.We could do a mock auction with a late model Fairmont V8 but photoshop a rotary in to the engine bay.
I bags you to be the one to list it though. lol
