Lining a bus

I am up to lining our bus and I am just wondering what people would suggest to fix the lining to the metal frames.

I am also thinking for the floor to paint bituman on the under side and then put something like (no more nails!) along the floor frame and screw.

Other ideas anyone.please

There are books in the library on fitting out a bus for a motor home, which is what I guess you are doing!
Make sure that you put in some type of insulation first and run the electrical wires and any piping for water & gas etc inside the walls. Note that you might need both 230 volt and 12 volt wiring. The 230 volt wiring must be the approved type to get an electrical WOF when you've finished.
Rust proofing is a good idea while the panels are off.
I also recommend having a chat with your local caravan builder - they are usually helpful if you approach them in the right way.
Good luck,Keith

3m make an excellent product for gluing the linings on both interior and exterior. 3m 560 is both a glue and a sealer, paintable and is available in either black or white. I sell heaps of it to motorhome builders.

Thank you I am not thick and your answer comes no way near what I asked

1buzemum, Sep 18, 6:53pm
Thanks I will look for some tomorrow ;-)

Don't know about thick but post number 4 is pretty nasty! don't knock it when people try to offer friendly advice

mugenb20b, Sep 18, 7:00pm
The man just offered you some very helpful / additional advice that may save you a lot of time and effort, and this is the thank you he gets!

1buzemum, Sep 18, 7:03pm
Not nasty at all, why on earth would you put the lining on when you havn't run wires or put in insulation

if he had of answered my Question and given advise it would have been worth the post

mugenb20b, Sep 18, 7:09pm
You don't need to be so abrasive.

a.woodrow, Sep 18, 7:10pm
Nasty because you came back with an unneccesary sarcastic answer for someone who was trying to offer sound advice. He didn't know what stage of build you were at or your level of abilty, if you didn't find his advice helpful you could have just ignored his post

1buzemum, Sep 18, 7:15pm
my first sentence was "I am up to lining my bus" .Yes he did give good advice but I asked what product to stick it on with not what I need to put in the walls first

and I was lucky poster #3 gave me the direct answer I was after :-)

mugenb20b, Sep 18, 7:24pm
There you go again! You are now politely putting down poster #2.

a.woodrow, Sep 18, 7:28pm
OP can't help themselves it seems

You have no idea what I put up with, I am sick of ringing business who end up telling me to get my husband to ring them back because it will be easier for them to explain "things" to him first hand.
I have had males scoff to my face and say "ha wonder what your bus will end up looking like" because it is me a female convirting it.

Why couldn't poster 2 given an answer like poster 3 did. Poster 2 didn't even answer my question not even close to answering it.

a.woodrow, Sep 18, 7:42pm
Maybe people wouldn't make things difficult for you if you were not so abrasive!

bigfatmat1, Sep 18, 7:44pm
Don't blame them listen to ya self who would want to deal with someone with an attitude like yours. I sure as hell wouldn't won't to communicate with some beast of your nature. Your poor husband supprised you have one actually.

1buzemum, Sep 18, 7:45pm
Thank you poster 3 you are a very informative person who answers questions that are asked

mugenb20b, Sep 18, 7:47pm
I am sorry to hear that you have had a tough time putting up with nasty remarks and sexist comments, but over the internet we don't know what 'exactly' one has already done or about to do. So, you will get a lot of good and maybe surplus advice which won't do any harm, right!

By the way, I know of some women (my ex boss's wife for example) who are $hitloads more knowledgable than me when it comes to buses and campervans.

bigfatmat1, Sep 18, 7:48pm
That is ironic don't ya think. Why you wonder because its like Chinese whispers, you know just like you mix up ya words and spell them wrong then that gets ya different results.

a.woodrow, Sep 18, 7:54pm
You'll get lots of different advice from different people when you post on an open forum. If you rude/sarcastic then you'll find people won't bother helping you out anymore

1buzemum, Sep 18, 8:00pm
Look I am sorry mercbens (Keith) that I jumped and said what I did.

What I don't understand is that someone can answer a post without even answering the question asked, Keith did give good advice but you would think if someone is up to lining the bus they have already done what Keith suggests (or they must have a good reason why not)

a.woodrow, Sep 18, 8:06pm
people like to offer advice on these things, sometimes you might find out something you hadn't previously considered. good on ya for apoligising :)

rivet 3mm plywood to steel frame some areas you my need extra bracing behind plywood, just remember to run more wires than you need as there is always something else to wire up at a later date like extra speakers or lights, also take note of where you have run your wires as you may get a short circiut ifyou happen to put a drill bit or screw through any of them.

don_logan, Sep 18, 8:50pm
Its late, and i may have missed it!. but what type of linning are you wanting to attach!
I have lined mine with T&G, so I insulated. then covered with black builders paper, then 3mm ply riveted to framing, then T&G bonded to the 3mm ply andcounter sunk screws into framing, which then capped or filled.
With the wiring you had to Either use non migratory cable. OR run-it inside conduit .

1buzemum, Sep 18, 8:58pm
The lining I took off was riveted and it had a foam tape on the steel frame(like the draft stop you can get for windows and doors) I was wondering if I needed to put something like the foam back up again, that is where the 3M stuff sounded ok. Suppose if I just riveted the sheet on it is easy removed if needed.

I am drawing all my diagrams on the bed base for all hidden wires etc so if anything needs getting at (I really hope not) I can measure and drill a hole to the spot.
