Yep. It's the shock part of the strut being discussed.

.unless they were a standard fitment.Had this argument years ago with a WoF inspector.Mine had adjustables from new, way back in 1970, therefore no cert required.

Yep, I have done them before then. But reading above . are the shocks being talked about ummm you know - the sealed ones! They have a weld sealing everything up that looks like it has been knurled over sometimes! The ones I have shortened were commodore front struts. They unscrew at the top and all of the valving etc slides out. The whole lot can be pulled apart and shortened up in a lathe. Thats what I did. You have a choice on how to do the housing . either cut at a point about 75mm (from memory) under the OEM strut housing thread - and take out a section from there or take it out from the bottom. Both methods require welding with the first one being covered/supported by the threaded sleeve you fit afterwards. The second way is to heat the stub axle housing up and a loud 'crack' will signal you that the tube housing is starting to separate from the axle housing when using a big arsed press. From there you shorten up the housing tube, weld in a new bottom plug and press the tube back into the axle housing. I've done it both ways but the second way needs more gear but can be hidden well (if you don't want it to be spotted)

Try and find a shorter version of the same unit. My rear coils would spin by hand, not loose at all, had to get shorter shocks. Viva shocks did the trick, at $38 each.
