My mitsubishi is doing the typical tick tick ticking so I want to get the tappets adjusted. Does anyone know how much it would cost! It's a 1.6 DOHC 4cyl

Just buy some proma mbl8 and add that,. I assume those cars use Hydraulic Lifters.

Nah they are not hydraulic lifters. So I'm pretty sure they need to be adjusted!

what engine! somone can tell you when you tell the engine code and its year. some are shimmed and these are the harder and more expensive ones to adjust as you got to exchange shimms.

Wow thanks for the great advice.
It's a 4G92 Mivec and apparently the noise can be greatly reduced with adjustment.

Changing the oil would be the first thing I'd do How sure are you that they aren't hydraulic!

changing the oil wont do anything to tapet noisewhen they need adjusting mechanically . only helps with hydraulic ones and promar only is for hydrolifters cant tell you if they are hydraulic as my autodata is on the computer with currantly no monitor but i am sure you get a answer soon.

I am 110% sure they are not hydraulic.

They are not hydraulic, .1mm for the intakes and .2mm for the exhaust COLD, if you need a shop to do it allow for probably 1-2 hours labour and a rocker cover gasket if needed.

So you've had the rocker cover off and looked!

i would make sure you find a good place like whangarei mitsubishi told me when i wanted some shimms for a 4m40 that they dont adjust valves and therefor dont have shimms and wished me luck. You dont want morons like that adjust your valves.

honda quoted me around $200 for adjusting my tappets on my car, so should cost around that

how are they morons when they told you that they didn't do them and therefor don't carry the shims!

if they dont adjust valves when it comes in for a service because they just dont bother to. do that part ,,,, i guess you be real pleased if you get your car serviced with em and then one day it stoped with a burnedvalve.

It wouldn't be a question of not bothering, more like the customers won't pay for the extra time involved in the course of a service, which according to some people on here shouldn't cost more than $69 inc gst, labour, materials, a wof, groom and the owners bum wiped. If it was an easy half hour job on most cars it would be more likely to be done but when you do daft things like make them shim adjustable instead of thread and locknut like they should be and put intercoolers over the top of the rocker covers it all gets too hard. On newer cars that are on lease plans they won't pay for it either unless the driver moans about noise or rough running.
