a bit of a bugbear for me is all the classified adverts on here showing a $0.00 price. To me no matter whats in the body of the text its false advertising.
Either the seller is perepared to sell the car for that price OR TM should pull the adverts. or am I just being an old grump!

sifty, Sep 18, 11:29am
nah I agree, screws up my looking when sorting by lowest price

fiatracer, Sep 18, 11:50am
they are a pain, I ignore them - never bother enquiring

flybye_in_a_rx7, Sep 18, 1:00pm
definitely agree. i dont even bother looking at these so its their loss really. i usually assume they have put $0 cuz the actual price is alot more than the car is worth but they must think they'll get more views putting $0.

smac, Sep 18, 1:14pm
Think about what you're trying to achieve though.ban $0 and they'll list for $1. I guess you could ban everything up to the price of a classified.

kazbanz, Sep 18, 2:32pm
Ahh yea but listing for a dollar puts them in a totally different position legally. and i dont mean TM "legally"

un_known, Sep 18, 2:55pm
yeh its annoying when sorting by price.also people that list the year with only the last 2 digits thats annoying when sorting by age.

familiadude, Sep 18, 2:55pm
It pisses me right off there wasa guy who listed an old mitsi vr4 for sale with asking price $10 on the classified so I rang him and said sweet mate Ill come pick it up for $10 asap he didnt know what to say

petermcg, Sep 18, 4:07pm
They are wasting there own time and ours the $0 adds should be pulled unless they are a genuine give away.

splinter67, Sep 18, 4:23pm
I agree but good on ya smac if we all agreed what might happen the world could end as we know it LOL

smac, Sep 18, 4:53pm
meh.I'm not worried about the world ending.how ever it happens it's bound to be a hell of a show and I want a front row seat. However, I disagree with you just on principle, and if that stops the world ending, so be it.

johnf_456, Sep 18, 4:57pm
I totally agree

kcf, Sep 18, 6:41pm
turn up with a lawyer and demand the car for free, as that's how they've advertised it.

Take a camera, and put the ensuing mayhem on youtube

gammelvind, Sep 18, 6:44pm
Get ride of them.

kaymay88, Sep 18, 7:29pm
you are not being a grump at all, you are dead right, it annoyes the hell outta me too. State a price and weed out tyre kickers and idiots looking for a low cost deal.

the $0 listing guys are the same idiots that will moan about high views and no interest, thats what you get when a view is necessary to get an idea of price.

muppets

chook90, Sep 18, 8:48pm
Unless they are prepared to GIVE the car away then it should have a price on it. Simple really.

pico42, Sep 18, 10:21pm
The lawyer will tell you that the ad with the $0 is, in law, only an invitation to treat. You would still have to make an offer and the seller then accept that offer for there to be a binding contract.

That will be $200 thanks.

brevo1, Sep 18, 10:57pm
i reckon its a great idea they relly piss me off

carmedic, Sep 19, 5:30am
A lot of these idiots are dealers who WANT the protection of selling their crap vehicle in a tender situation however don't wish to pay the do it 'correctly' by running an auction. I can't understand why trademe tolerate it.

kazbanz, Sep 19, 6:04am
Can you quote some examples mon! Theres a fair few reasons a dealer wouldn't use this kinda advertising. But I've been wrong before and no doubt I'll be wrong again

matarautrader, Sep 19, 6:20am
Just replied to a $0 sale. Auction had $0 asking price at top. Seller had "offers" down in the description. Told him I would make an offer at the asking price of $0, and when could I pick it up.

kazbanz, Sep 19, 11:07am
I just couldn't let this go it annoys me -response from TM
Thanks for getting in touch
We agree, pricing a car for $0 is very annoying for buyers, its a method sellers have employed since we introduced the tiered pricing structure for motor vehicles as a way of avoiding listing fees.
If you come across any listings like this, please do bring them to our attention by using the "Community Watch" feature at the bottom of the listing, and our policing team will take the appropriate action. Generally we give sellers a couple of days to update their pricing or we remove the listing.
Do let me know if you have any problems with this and keep in touch should anything crop up in the future.

splinter67, Sep 19, 11:14am
So they couldnt see the 45 cars that are listed at 0$

kazbanz, Sep 19, 11:21am
aparently not. And all "private" sellers

ck59, Sep 23, 1:32am
yeah why are they allowed to list for $0 - i dont think any other category allows that!if they are going to list for $they should have to agree that the car is free! :-) - why is it allowed - not one of them is selling their vehicle for $0 so it must be a breach of trademe terms so why do they allow it!

I would suggest everyone who pposted in this thread makes a point of whenever they have the time, going and reporting the $0 listings - hopefully they will get tired of trademe emailing them about it - and if they arent removed then someone could contact trademe quoting the above and asking them to explain why any of them are still there more than 2 days after being reported
