You're talking about the one offered for $900! I would be going over it very thoroughly if I were you

agree, heaps of dung, if it was a toyota, maybe, but I wouldn't even look at a car with that amount of kms on it.

Thinking about it, for $900 why bother, if it drives, buy it and throw it away when it breaks down

+1, if you can afford to walk away from it when it breaks, go for it.Not like 3k plus is being asked here which is what most would be asking for that era of vehicle.

It depends on what model Diamante it is. If it's an NZ-new (and therefore Australian assembled) Diamante (aka Magna or Verada) then it will have the more basic and reliable SOHC engine and 4-speed automatic transmission combination along with more simple MacPherson strut front suspension and PBR brakes. While these models are essentially watered down versions of the Japanese ones suffering from typical Australian assembled car problems (ie sagging roof linings, crappy paint quality), the drivetrain is perhaps more tolerant to neglect and abuse than the complicated in comparison Japanese import models with DOHC engines, tiptronic transmissions, GDI, MIVEC and multi-link front suspension.
Main issue with one at 380,000kms would be smoke and oil burning from the engine due to worn valve stem seals and/or worn piston oil control rings - however if it's not showing signs of smoke or oil burning at 380,000kms then it's more than likely had a rebuild at some stage previously. The transmission would be up to the task of doing that many kilometers SO LONG as the fluid has been changed at its specified service intervals.
At the end of the day it comes down to how the car is looked after by its owners. At 380,000kms it could be in impeccable condition with a full service history and put cars with half the kilometers to shame. or it could be a total dog that was lucky to make it to that distance.
I currently have a Toyota with 510,000kms on the clock and by looking at it you would never guess it had done that milage - but I sure know it because of the oil leaks it has!

Yea, mitsi's are shit, or so everyone will tell you. Its probably been wound forward to make it look good. If they were that bad they wouldnt make 380,000km in the first place. But theres more than just the motor, everything else has gone that far as well.

At $900 you can't go wrong. Its worth $700 as a parts car. So if it completly dies tomoorrow you've only lost $200.

I've had driven, owned and worked on plenty of cars with far higher mileage. For the most part, simply depends on how well it's been looked after/serviced.
For $900 though, I'd just buy it, run it into the ground, then walk away and get something else later.
Go for it, it may even surprise and last 5 years before it finally dies who knows.

Lots of Diamantes at pick-a-part so if anything goes wrong just grab bits from there.

^^ yeah that's an Australian assembled model, and looks to be a mid spec with dual air bags. Cant really go wrong for $900 for a 2000 year car.

My mighty caldina has 387,000 km on it but then again its made by a better manufacturer.

301,600 km on my 1982 Mitsubishi Sigma RWD (could not resist lol)

That's very low mileage for a car that age. I've got one half that age done more than twice as much.
