had a customer come in today with a council fine of $200 for incorrect display of WOF sticker I had issued last month. It's where I've been putting the damn things for the last 16 years.top rh corner of the windscreen.wtf!

aragorn2003, Oct 3, 4:10pm
was it being slightly covered by a tint band along the top!

alan1111, Oct 3, 4:12pm
Not Taupo by any chance lol. I had a customer say same thing about 2 months ago. I now stick em r/h bottom

franc123, Oct 3, 4:12pm
Wasn't up in the tint band by any chance! Most tint bands are dark enough to seriously obscure WOF labels, there is a requirement for avi's to place them in the clear section of the drivers side outer edge of the screen.

supernova2, Oct 3, 4:15pm
Given that the WOF sticker is not attached by the car owner how could and owner/driver be liable for such an infringement!

socram, Oct 3, 4:16pm
$200 for a technical offence and yet yobbos get 5 minutes community service for committing criminal acts or rack up $40,000 worth of unpaid fines.
Tell the customer to write and and complain as they didn't attach it.

Its a sad world when these jobsworths don't understand the value and purpose of a warning.

I always demand mine are attached bottom left and will happily argue my case in court if I have to.

supernova2, Oct 3, 4:17pm
Bottom left!Do you have a LHD vehicle!

saxman99, Oct 3, 4:19pm
I usually attach my own. I put them in the usual place, except for the van when I put it bottom right cos it's in the way if it's top right.

mykyva, Oct 3, 4:27pm
no tints, normally if there's a tint or adhesive glazing across the top I normally stick it just under. The stickers as clear as day, reason for ticket was too difficult to read. It was an SUV but still, is there a new law I don't know about!

socram, Oct 3, 4:38pm
Nope.I refuse to have anything on the driver's side of the screen that obscures my vision to the extent a WoF sticker does.
Top right is just about the worst place of all, particularly if the screen is fairly close to your line of sight. The closer to your eye,the larger the area of obstruction and the larger the blind spot, particularly when the A pillar is already a substantial obstruction on many cars.
Why do you fail a warrant for a 4mm (or whatever) stone chip in your line of sight, but it is OK to slap on a WoF sticker a few cms away!
Folllowed a lady yesterday who was wandering all over the road - then I saw she had mounted her sat nav slap bang in front, half way up the screen.
The location rule is way out of date, given that by the time a cop stops you these days, he already has all the details anyway.

"a) if the vehicle is fitted with a windscreen:

i. to the inside of the windscreen facing outwards on the same side as the steering wheel, and

ii. as close as possible to the edge of the windscreen where it is clearly visible from the outside and is not obscured by an anti-glare band or sticker"

Maybe the guy is so hunched over from marking tyres he can't see top of screen.

Surprised I haven't got a ticket for that yet for the bike. Heaven forbid the parking warden might actually have to look at the back of my licence plate to see it.

mantagsi, Oct 3, 4:54pm
A council fine for incorrect display of wof! I cannot understand to this day what business the council has issuing any sort of vehicle related fine other than parking. Leave policing to the police!

pauldw, Oct 3, 5:14pm
Stationary vehicle offences are big money earners for councils. The Police have little interest in walking around doing it.

gedo1, Oct 3, 6:03pm
1.Councils do Reg and Wof/Cof infringements in stationary vehicles more or less on behalf of Police.
2. Accordingly Councils only get half the "infringement Fee" for Reg and Wof/Cof catches.
3. Stationary Reg and Wof/Cof infringement fees are higher monetarily than those issued to a moving vehicle pulled over by Police.
4. Council officers do not have the right to serve infringements on moving vehicles (except where Bus or Transit lanes fall withing their areas and then only infringements associated with misuse of those lanes)
5. and finally all those who say Police should be out there solving "real" crime! Why then object when councils accept part of the work which allows Police to do just that!

kokako14, Oct 3, 11:34pm
Yes, and how many councils actually send half the 'infringement fee' on to the authorities

gedo1, Oct 4, 1:49am
They have no choice.

pauldw, Oct 4, 4:39am
As late as 2010 Dunedin and a number of other councils weren't paying anything to the Police.http://www.odt.co.nz/news/dunedin/141814/dcc-failing-pay-ticket-revenue-crown.

rpvr, Oct 4, 4:54am
I would love to make up my own infringement notice for the parking officer, for issuing an illegible ticket.

Surely in this case it's simply a matter of fronting up to the council office with the vehicle and insisting they have a look and say what the problem is, or send a photo.

smac, Oct 4, 5:05am
Most councils now photograph the vehicle don't they! Should clear it up.

pauldw, Oct 4, 5:05am
IIRC the location isn't for the benefit of the cop it's so the driver can see if the warrant is current.

kngfhrt, Oct 4, 6:01am
obviously that council parking officer was a wana be Cop but was rejected and that was the next closest job he could land to it.
what a low life and a Scum!
guys on a power trip and needs to be brought back into line!
id say for the benefit of alllaw abiding motorist, yourself and your customer, fight it!

kngfhrt, Oct 4, 6:20am
the fn Bars-turd!

intrade, Oct 4, 7:04am
The naigbour told me why this guy did this, the local cops some of em think they can make there own law even do they know nothing about it like kim.com casefor example. He was in court 3 times and the cops could not lay charges against him he made the cops look like mupets in court and that was the purpose to make em wake up that they are not God, ruleing the world.
