what car / eng combination will toyota and merc run !nascar toyotas run OHVtruck motors so i believe, are these new comers going to have to use V8OHV engines !

Yeap, nissans got an OHV engine. Its also got 4 camshafts up there. It comes from a nissan titan truck and is downsized to 5L Im quite sure I read

Anything like a normal road car will be more interesting than no matter how many type brands they have to go with today's type racing. Could I suggest "Group A" again ! Even watching something like a Nissan GTR winning regularly against a normal engined/bodied Falcon/Comm would be better than these "Nascars". Totally un-relatable to me , may as well just watch F1.

Yeah not much interest from me either.at least having a few more badges will make it interesting, but in reality, those are almost the only differences.

OHV (overhead valve)! You may find that with the exception of classic racing no one has raced a side valve engine for decades! I think you may be talking about ???overhead cam??? engines.

'Push rod' engines (i.e. cam isn't on the head) are what he is referring to. AKA OHV since the valve is over the head.but not OHC :)

Oh sorry, i thought toyota was running at bathurst next year, are nissan at it too !andhaving 4 cams up there is what we call OHC morrie !LOL. so are all the entrants on OHV V8'sor are we going to have some bloody monkey fornicating capacity v cam location ruling !if they do, i've just lost all interest !NOT ONLY THAT, but i think the rules should start to reflect what joe average drives, say minimum25'000 production units etc

All you guys need to look up the car of the future I think your all in for a surprise

If the racing is as good as the last hour on Sunday I don`t care who races what ! Provided the MB`s are winning of course !
gman35,
Oct 8, 2:25pm
Well , 25,000 is alot , but Group A was for 500 "Homologated" cars. At least back then you could drive your Sierra Cosworth / BMW M3 / Commodore SS etc to the race with pride and then see how "your" modeldid on raceday. Not sure what exactly the Ford or Holden fans are trying to prove these days , but what is on the track ain't much like what they drive I would bet.

Still more exiting years ago when the Falc's and Comm's were dicing for 1st and 2nd AND dealing with slower-classed traffic also though.
the-lada-dude,
Oct 8, 2:39pm
OK maybe 25'000 is too many, but what i want as others say is realistic m / racing. and at the speeds they're going now, won't be long b4 there's one hell of a prang, with wire and fabric and burn't bodies every where !

Splitting hairs here mate, (I??
the-lada-dude,

no SR2i said OHVwhich means OHVand using push rods is one of the simplest ways of actuating them

All engines run under parity that is identical power and torque curves, a great yawn fest and will boil down to who has the modt coin much like the current series. what's the point at least with F1 it is suppose to be the pinnacle of automotive technology.
sr2,
Oct 8, 3:02pm
LOL, now I'm really confused.
gman35,
Oct 8, 3:08pm
Yep , why it is now remotely interesting to anyone who has ever seen the older stuff is a mystery to me. They are the same look , size and similar speed throughout the field.
the-lada-dude,
Oct 8, 3:12pm
OH WHAT !man that's just crap racing then, every good racing generally runs to a set enginecapacity surrounded by other limiting rules. to tell the truth, AUSSIE V8's is exactly what it says, instead of two drunken factions brawling in the local, the attempt to slug it out on the race track, and frankly both systems need hospitalization.as someone else pointed out these aussie wackers might be in for a big dose of. when the japs and euros turn up !
hi-ling,

Its a joke really when here we are entering the 2013 season and both the Ford and Holden camp are forced to use engines based on their 1967-69 designs and capacity. I think its great to have the other manufacturers in, the sport needs it, but at least let the Ford and Holden camps us some of their current technology.
the-lada-dude,
Oct 8, 3:18pm
AH come on SR2i'm just as old and as grumpy as you. an engine with OHV's that are actuated via an overhead cam shaft is known as .
twink19,
Oct 8, 3:18pm
boring race, it is a joke, super tourers here wil end up the same, cant beat a good classic meeting, Mafield 8, 9 ,10,November,38 races over 2 days well worth the trip
hi-ling,
Oct 8, 3:19pm
Trouble is if the Nissan and Merc strats winning they'll have weight penalties imposed to slow them down and we've seen before that some of the bigger smarter teams sandbag at the beginning of the season then whinge like f*** to get the other teams slowed, then they pull out all stops and win the series. It went on for years between both camps
the-lada-dude,
Oct 8, 3:24pm
actually,Mercedes do in fact have a V8 OHV( pushrod )engine i think it's only 3.5 ltr but it would probably be extremely competitive. someone who's good at goggling can check it out !
quickstitch,
Oct 8, 3:31pm
180 thousand people who turned up to watch it probably didn't think so. nor the millions watching it around the world on tv. And it doesn't need to change to survive. Bringing in these other makes may do just the opposite, kill iy off. The last time thet went to the 2 litre class really proved that.
lookoutas,
Oct 8, 3:50pm
Why are you guys all plonking out crap!
Both cars now are on a 888 chassis' - the same engine/trans/diff & suspension, with appropriate panels bolted on to make them look like a Falcon or Holden. Any brand that joins in will be made up in the same manner.
splinter mentions having a "look-up" - might do that when I've got time, just in case I'm wrong about future plans. But that's how it is now.
