One point that people forget about with class racing, where all brakes, suspension, gearboxes, and engine outputs etc are are a control item, is that the racing is between drivers and crews. Nobody wants to watch the same guy winning race after race by 10 laps.
As much as I am not into the ford/holden rivalry thing the last hour of bathurst yesterday was as good as it gets. Two equally matched cars going balls out hoping the other will run out of juice or hit the wall first. Sorry, but a gtr winning by 3 laps is a whole lot more boring than what we saw yesterday. because the cars are so closely matched, it has to be about more than outright speed. it comes down to how good the drivers and the crew are as well. people sit at home on the edge of their seat praying their favourite team doesnt cock a pad change up and loses half a lap. It is a formula that works.

Both current cars run the same gearbox and diff, BUT the ford runs a Boss 302 and the Holden runs a Chev 302.

Not according to Murph. He told us at a dinner last year that the engines are identical. One has a Ford stamp on it and the other has GM. And all parts are interswopable. He said the ones that are winning have the budgets to give their drivers (and co-drivers) the most track time.

I am looking forward to the inclusion of more manufacturers.
If only it went back to the way it used to be. That was fun to watch.

I bet you are getting mixed up with v8 supertourers which murphy also drives.
NZTools,

Splinter67 and lookoutas are confusing v8 superars with v8 supertourers. Supercars run ford or Aroura engines, which have many control parts such as heads, pistons camshafts etc, but they are different engines.

You'll looz the bet.

So mercedes and nissan are using the same engine as well! I think not. lol

make the cars more production based, and put down some gravel or snow . then I'll watch it.Oh wait, that's rallying :-)

Then Murph's a liar! He's a woundup shortass, so he'll jump pretty high.
Edit And how do you work that out! "Supercars run Aroura engines - but they are different"
I'll take your lead splinter.
NZTools,
Oct 8, 5:59pm
No he's not a liar. Supertourers use the generic engine that you mentioned.
try googling it. theres lots of info to clear your confusion.

Try reading my post a little more carefully. i said "Supercars run ford or Aroura engines"

Well, Murph is full of it, I've just been on the ph to I guy I worked with years ago and who is still currently building race engines, and as I stated e Aussie V* supercars ARE running 2 different engines, 1 ford based and 1 chev based. And thats just straight from the mouth of Larry Perkins.

You mean next year when the COTF comes in.Then they will all use the same chassis ,suspension ,brakes etc.The only difference will be the engines which will be governed to match the existing H/F.The appearance will change only when they bolt on their own panels to match the engine make.
lookoutas,

So what is the truth!
Is Murph a liar - or should we not believe everything we read on the internet!
What do they want the punters to believe!
lookoutas,
Oct 8, 6:19pm
Well ya can't get clearer than that.
Just as well he drives a Holden.
So are the bolt-ons interchangeable! Which raises the question of how can they be different!
Will the other makes have a block they can fit everything onto!
I have nothing to ad except a little chuckle at everone saying "Merc' is joining V8 supercars.
Well they aren't, Erebus Motorsport together with SBR will be running AMG's through the customer motorsports program.
Merc' wants nothing to do with it all. I'd be VERY surprised if the Erebus/SBR team have a 3 pointed star ANYWHERE, including, cars, transporters and apparel.

Someone has to do the dishes!Or else!
I did read it nzt - interesting. I didn't have any reason to disbelieve Murph. But I still can't imagine how a Ford/Chev head/intake & other crap will fit the other.
They dont fit each other. The chev heads flow exactly the same amount as the ford heads, with the same sized valves etc. but it will not fit on the ford block The chev camshaft has exactly the same lift, overlap and duration as the ford cam, but it will not fit in the ford block, and vise versa. It is items like these that ensure the engines have the same output, but they are not interchangable,

What will the body panels be then,Surely they won't use holden panels with a Merc block!
