getting abit out of hand. took a car in for a wof today. only done 2000k since last wof. somehow all the brakes have improved since last wof, and 2 tyres (5mm tread last wof) need to be replaced, and 2 other tyres gained tread. must admit, they are becoming cowboys in vtnz now days. how does all of this happen in 2000km, really!

there where always bad at vtnz for failing stuff that is not broken and passing dangerous broken things.

The brake readings is a bit of a BS thing tbh. You can make the brake tester (Tapley meter) read anything you like. It works based on how hard you apply the brakes, obviously. So, yes, the brake readings can "improve" depending on how hard you stomp on the pedal on the day of inspection.
As for tread depths, if the tyres look good, they pass, so some inspectors don't bother measuring them, they simply take a guess and write down the "measurements".

I watched inspectors fail to find the knackered bushings on my Peugeot twice thru sheer ignorance of how the suspension worked, two warrants it got through before I replaced them, They seem to understand jappas but anything remotely sophisticated theyre lost on

LOL, you think that's bad. I took a trailer down for a WOF behind my MK1 Fiat Panda. They had to come and get me because they couldn't figure out how to turn the lights on. They may not have seen one before, but I am struggling to think of a car with a more basic dash layout.
Several vehicles I have taken in I have had to show them where to find the vin tag. Pretty hopeless, although a bit funny.

If its the Pandas you have previously droned on about it was Mk 2 Just saying.

Its been happening for years! where else can you get a wof with clicking CV joints the ole straight in straight out job.
franc123,

Everywhere, given that noisy cv's aren't a wof issue.

the thing is with these drive in wof stations is that is exactly it. drive in drive out no open road test. I have been using vtnz for a while but when they damaged my car I started taking it to my local and the guy took it for a drive, noticed a knocking in around the front wheel so checked it out, found a bolt missing so replaced it for no extra charge you cant get any better than that.

VTNZ are good for one thing, going through with a locked diff or a tight 2 way LSD lol I will give them that haha but you just have to be able to spin a bit of a yarn when they cant figure out what is up with rear brake balance.

Not my fault that posters come on here and attempt to quote regulations that don't exist. If you can quote the appropriate legislation or reasons for rejection from the VIRM please do, otherwise feel free to make a fool of yourself. Same with fixit dipstick who does it repeatedly.

Seems to depend on whereyou go VTNZ in Levin has always been goodanyfaults that fail areshown , & at least you dont have towait until somegreasemonkey at a garagegets around too itsometimethat day-maybeeven if you book .And at least VTNZ dont have altreior motives for fails .

Of course they do. You pay, they pass you, end of deal. You pay (the same) they fail you, they then have to dick around when you come back to recheck. Fails cost them.

i had a 94 vr commodore a few yrs ago, they couldnt find the button to open the boot, so they thought pulling on the spoiler would open it. about 2 weeks ago, took the truck down for a cof (kenworth K104) and they said the rear brake shoes were worn and had to be replaced, so the machanic pulled the shoes off, they were still in near new condition, so he took them back to the guy and showed him. never seen that prick back down from a fight so fast.
is a cv boot and a steering rack boot fail material!
also the car is a evo 4, do they have cvs front and back!
intrade,

steering rack boot is a fail cv boot only if it sprayed grease near the brakes etc.
miss-shortae,
Oct 16, 6:34pm
it has just started to crack, not completely through to the grease yet.

Ive Mod' certified 4 of my own cars aswell as a my new motorcycle this includes a ute conversion so I think I know what Im on about, maybe you need to learn a few lessons in hands on experience, before quoting your VIRM.
