Unbelievable, having to spend money at Puke

yes pukekohe is in the super city now unfortunatley.but the upside is with this investment in the track and the money it will drag into town is a great thing.i also support HD fully but i dont think that at the moment it is even close to providing the infrastructure that it would need to hold the v8s and after the disaster that was called hamilton i really think that the promoters, teams, and the investors were prepared for any sort of risk again and thankfully lennie and his lot for once made the right decsion.because i would dare say it was pukekohe or we are out of nz totally and once gone we aint coming back

ps:you can escape the super city down here just have to move to tuakau which isnt such a bad thing either

Just like Socram, I have a bit of bias towards HD as I have spent a decent amount of time there since it opened.

No one would argue that HD needs more facilities and it is screaming out for the track extension to be completed. What HD has is a plan and a vision to become something special.Having $6 million thrown at it would definitely help it along the way instead of putting it into Pukekohe.

There were many people who doubted HD would get off the ground at all.Tony Roberts and co. have done an amazing job but there are still so many arm chair critics willing to put the boot in even now. That's pretty sad.

Between HD and Pukekohe, one of these tracks has a future going foward.Unless the council wishes to amend their noise control legislation which they police so vigorously at Pukekohe, the track must inevitably be doomed.

I find it difficult to fathom why one arm of the council is willing to throw so much money to Puke', while another arm of the council tries so hard to have each meeting quashed with its army of noise control officers and their audio measuring equipment.

Why throw ratepayers' money at a fish nearly dead in the water!

I have no doubt that Puke' has its supporters.I bet there were still supporters for black n white tv when colour came in too. ;)

PSCan I suggest an engine transplant for the horsepower problem Socram. It will be our dirty little secret. :)

Yes townie55 it would of helped you pity HD is not in the supercity why dont ya ask the waikato council dont like your chances

socram, Oct 17, 7:04pm
Thought about it Townie, but the project car will give me V8 power!

The event should be viable WITHOUT council support.Equally, HD were not going to pay you know who, to bring the circus to town either.

Aussie V8s apparently need a NZ round to retain their "International Status" according to one well written article we were pointed to yesterday. If that article is to be believed, Aussie V8s needs NZ rather more than we need them, so why would we pay to have them here!

Wouldn't the race in texas do that

As a punter who enjoys motorsport with no knowledge of the behind the scenes politics,I have a question. Why would a city council throw money at either track! Surely both tracks are run as a private business venture. If i went to auckland city council with a request for some money to upgrade my shop what do you think my chances are!So why dont the owners of puke pay for the upgrades! like the owners of HD have to do

Yes.for 2013, but wait and see if it's still on the calander for 2014.

Cockring has (had) a habit of suggesting international races.THEN going and finding a track or government that he can (could) extort $ from, and 90% of the time it worked because cockring would say "Hey look, we've already named your track, city or country to host a race next year, the PR is gaining strenght to your benefit so how 'bout a little financial support"

Next years calander is chocka with "international" races, but mark my words, many of them will be one offs, despite what cockring and heir apparent Skaife say.

I'm glad HD didn't get the V8SC circus, i want to see HD continue on it's path of growth under it's own power and become the worldwide renown track it WILL become.
Just think for a minute how HD would end up after a few years of local or central governments interference. The more they dismiss HD the better .

Bring The Touring Car Masters to Hampton Downs.

splinter67, Oct 18, 10:13am
HD wont pay for the v8s do ya think they are going to pay for that lol

tigra, Oct 18, 10:47am
The owners of Pukekohe Park are still probablythe original Franklin Racing Club - now the Counties Racing Club - with much more of an interest in horseracing, thoroughbred stud and all that goes with this industry than V8's and you cant see them wanting to mortgage themselves to the hilt to satisfy a few events a year, Especially when there are lots of wannabee's an hour away that can probably convince themselves its good for Auckland and dont care very much about what ratepayers think.

floscey, Oct 18, 10:53am
im sure TCM dont ask for a million upfront before anything else .

socram, Oct 18, 1:29pm
There will probably be several at the Hulme Festival again this year and agree, they are a huge drawcard.Classic Muscle in any guise is probably the best of all circuit racing and is more popular with fans than any other category.

elect70, Oct 18, 2:06pm
^^^ yep it was lucky the NZv8ran thecentral muscle cars last seasonor else thecrowds would have been dismal , 6 V8s racing !
