thats your oponion. Hampton downs is still to far away to be completed whereas pukekohe only needs small repair work. Also Pukekohe is the fastest track in Australasia

Why should the auckland council put money into Hampton downs they can put there own money in.When will HD be finished !

And that is your opinion! Having raced at Pukekohe last weekend and used the track at Hampton Downs yesterday, I beg to differ. Pukekohe needs a total track surface and barriers overhaul, HD needs finishing. As at today, HD is way ahead of Pukekohe. The actual track needs no work at all.The garages just need the hospitality units on the top to seal them; the control tower needs building (as does Pukekohe);and the increased length of Pukekohe after the overhaul will add a massive 70m to the track length.Wow!HD's track extension will add I think, 1km, or will incorporate a club circuit that can be isolated from the current National circuit.(Hopefully will be completed within two years.)
Happy that Pukekohe is getting a long overdue upgrade, but I'll miss that flat out run down to the old hairpin which is a great overtaking spot. The new layout will make it less easy to overtake for most classes of racing - and it will no longer be the fastest track in Australasia.

It is just a joke that they are spending money there it just shows that the people doing it are complete idiots! It has average or very minimal viewing points for more than a small section of the track, the track is slowly being surrounded by business's & housing which are already complaining, the allowed noise & operation times/days are more restricted as time goes by and it is just a matter of time before the bulk of people want it gone! just look around the country at other race venues that have died or are currently in the process and it is just insanity what is happening!
splinter67,
Oct 15, 12:18pm
Wake up 1olie the houses have been there before you were born infact I know people that have been there since the 70s
floscey,
Oct 15, 12:20pm
tell that to the people around western springs!
splinter67,
Oct 15, 12:24pm
Yes thats another argument all together the f#@its that are complaining there have moved in after the speedway was there so they should move not one of the most awesome tracks in the world at more cost to the auckland rate payer

I am wide awake bud, it appears it is you that needs to wake up! I have been going there for my whole life and from what it looked like 20 years ago in the surrounding area to what it looks now just amazes me every time I see it but its the last 8 odd years that the development has moved right up to the sides of the track, yes there have been houses, business's an what not around there but in smaller numbers, people used to be a lot more laid back about noise an such but not in this day an age you start whinging to the counsel if you don't like something instead of putting up with it a few days a week and obviously not every person is complaining but enough that its becoming a little bit more of a problem each year! Geshhh I am not even from Auckland and I know about the problems! go ask some people involved with the track they will tell you about the complaining and restrictions that continue to get worse not better!
1ollie,

Once again you need to wake up there is nothing they can do its juts how it works these days! does not matter if it was there since the beginning of time!

Geez flosey I thought youd be in for the chicane at puke with the cars going slower the fords might be able to keep up LOL
whqqsh,
Oct 15, 12:33pm
Spending money on Puke is a bit short sighted IMO. I reckon its had its day (although sad to say) but Hampton has far more to offer in the future

Now do you understand who signed the contract with the supercars organization it was the council do you think that a few complaints are going to make the council throw away the millions they are putting in
splinter67,
Oct 15, 12:44pm
Your almost right what it shows is the idiiocy of the auckland council build a new speedway at a huge cost to look after some yuppies wonder how long before the complaints against the zoo and motat get them moved there noise pollution is year round the speedway runs 12 meetings a year
floscey,
Oct 15, 12:49pm
I cant beleive they are going to spend money in the place , and to put in a chicane is stupid. Its like giving a average looking lady a face lift to look pretty but sewing on a cock while your there.

Oct 15, 12:53pm
I agree but who owns the puke race track thats why the council is putting money in there and HD would have to get funding from waikato or some rich benefactor
1ollie,
Oct 15, 12:54pm
Yes fully understand lol bahahahaha and did you miss the part of how I find this all to be a next level sort of stupid idea! you and other feel free to correct me if I am wrong! I am not saying its going to get closed down next year just I will be amazed if it is still working as a proper race track or even still there in 6+ years time
splinter67,
Oct 15, 12:57pm
Not sure how long the contract was for I think its for 6 years thats also depending on what happens at manakau motorsport park

I don't believe who was there first will make any difference. Look at Ruapua, when opened (late 50's I think) it was cheap, gorse and rabbit infested shingle. No one wanted to live in the area which was close to Christchurch Prison. Now, 30 years later those who bought the cheapest sections in Christchurch (shingle, proximity to the prison, and directly under the flight path to Harewood Airport) have the councils ear and have successfully restricted Ruapuna's use and noise levels. Lets face it, motor racing is not very PC and who was there first will make no difference to future restriction being imposed. Look at Western Springs.

The funny thing is that HD doesn't NEED any more financing to upgrade, they've already secured the funding they need and the upgrades are going ahead V8s or not. Pukekohe is a dead duck. It's too surrounded by land that's rapidly-increasing in value and Pukekohe is rapidly going from being a rural outpost of Auckland to a lifestyle block suburb of Auckland.
Auckland council has agreed to put $6 million into Pukekohe. Givent hat the upgrade plan basically involves resurfacing the whole track, building new sections, completely redoing all the run-off areas, upgrading the facilities including all new pit buildings. I'm seeing $6m become $20m before they've even started!
Hey, I'm not complaining, Us Aucklanders get two motorsport venues for the price of one then, but the sensible side of me says Hampton Downs would have been by far the better option.
