johnf_456, Oct 14, 5:39pm
yeah forgot the comma. Beside with no coolant its not going to be going far on the road unless it is air cooled, let alone no battery

johnf_456, Oct 14, 5:44pm
What language are you speaking, cryptic english speaker!

I took my Toyota cavalier to VTNZ last year.
Failed due to me forgetting to replace fuel cap.OOPS!
could not find a cap that would fit after driving around town all day looking for one.
went to Toyota, they told me to go to Holden, so I went there and they told me to go to Toyota omg.
anyway while leaving Holden just as I got back in I noticed water sitting under the car so had a look and yup water pump seal had gone.my day should not get any worse.
Got it back home which was 30min drive.coolant was fine as it was only seeping out.
I had a good look to try to see the exact place where it was leaking only to find one of the front drive CV boots was shredded to pieces!
Sure the fuel cap was my fault.
The water pump was no one's fault.
But how can a CV boot that it not even perished just rip apart like that.
TBH I have been waiting for the day when they cause something to fail as the was they treat the cars that they check.
If you stand at the windows and look how they just stick their crowbars in places with out looking to check that they are not Going to damage something it must happen all the time.
Normally that fail you if the boots are at all perished.
So yea I would rather go to my local .
They to a far better job, they take the cars for a proper road test which VTNZ does not.
They even replaced a bolt that was missing after they heard a weird noise during the road test and they did it for no extra charge.
Same power different attitude lol

I wondered what happened to him. though I do remember him being referred to as a different kind of stain

intrade, Oct 14, 5:46pm

llortmt, Oct 14, 5:59pm
Perished, split or missing CV boots are Not a WOF fail.

wind.turbine, Oct 14, 6:08pm
for real!
I have been failed for a perished boot before

intrade, Oct 14, 6:09pm

Golf balls and beer, what's important in life!
When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 Beers.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous 'yes.'

The professor then produced two Beers from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.

'Now,' said the professor as the laughter subsided, 'I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things---your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions---and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car. The sand is everything else---the small stuff.

'If you put the sand into the jar first,' he continued, 'there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life.

If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff you will never have room for the things that are important to you.

Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.

Spend time with your children. Spend time with your parents. Visit with grandparents. Take your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and mow the lawn.

Take care of the golf balls first---the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the Beer represented. The professor smiled and said, 'I'm glad you asked.' The Beer just shows you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of Beers with a friend.

End of the day johnf_456 i finished my time in ole 1984.
Was signing my name on warrants LONG before one was tested every year.

But end of the day it is my EXPERIENCE not a damn number.
After all tis motoring-some EXPERIENCED posters here recognize each others EXPERIENCE.
(Or LACK of it)
Dat simple.there is a LOT of mutual respect here-just well been a lot of penny ante sandpit sorta stuff that us EXPERIENCED posters don't hold a lot of stock in.No offence.BUT.well known (and tolerated) on this MB. I??

Good god, yet another person who holds the deluded belief that a cheap 18yr old car should remain maintenance free indefinitely.
Tyres - what they just mysteriously wore out! The previous owner created some optical illusion that made them look good at the time! Seriously chap!
Brake hoses, steering boots - wow, 18yr old components made of rubber that have worn out - didn't see that coming.
Rust! Rust that YOU couldn't see when you inspected the car so presumably neither could the previous owner!

Exactly HOW have you been screwed!

In fairness, $2K was a cheapy, I was more meaning the ones around 1994 that they are wanting $4K for.
That said, $2K can buy a LOT of car. I paid that for my absolutely immaculate 99 Citroen which only cost me a set of pads and rotors over my course of ownership. Sold it easily at a small profit when I was finished too.
(and technically the profit covered my pads, rotors, wof's, reg and insurance)

johnf_456, Oct 15, 11:26am
Yes, but also i would prefer if you didn't name call.

mrfxit, Oct 15, 11:40am
Name calling would be using derogative or swearing names directed at you personally.
