A gigantic time-wasting rort, and a make-work scheme to guarantee work for the motor trade and a pension plan for retired mechanics.
The rest of the world don't have them, so why should little, tiny, New Zealand!
What makes us think we know better than the rest of the world!

neverl8, Oct 12, 2:01pm
We've also got:

The Geo - Location of 1800 WoF sites in NZ
Grouping by Postcode
The number of Inspector Suspensions and where
WoF fail percentages by month
The number of fines issued for
No WoF, No REGO and lots of other Fine data.

It's certainly a significant money earner for Industry

if one of you can be so kind as to work these figures out to % ( easy, but i busy )it would also be interesting to compare these fail rates to OVERDUEwof test dates .then if your real keen, review all the accident data for injury / death.I bet mechanical failure would be less than 0.1 % tyres = less than 1%everything for failed wof = bugger allthe biggest cause for accidents is the dick behind the steering wheel !
being" too fast--too drunk-- too furious "

ct9a, Oct 12, 2:20pm
oooooo please post !

clairbell, Oct 12, 2:25pm
The fact that 28.6% failed means over 1 in 4 cars are at sometime not road worthy. Remove this check and the percentage will grow. I would rather pay a few hundred each year and know the idiot screaming around the corner is more likely to have road worthy tyres. My family ride with me in my car and that $200 for me makes me feel a little better about taking them on the road.

rsr72, Oct 12, 2:42pm
#6- As I said, why should we have them and the world doesn't!
About time we gave up our State nannying, grew up, and learned some self-responsibility as a nation.

neverl8, Oct 12, 2:53pm
Self responsibility I like.

neverl8, Oct 12, 3:14pm
We have the percentage breakdown also

gunhand, Oct 12, 3:27pm
The United Kingdom does. Its required for vehicles anually over 3 year old used on public raods and tests, roadworthiness, automobile safety and exhaust emissions. United Kingdom is a largeish place.

thewomble1, Oct 12, 4:26pm
1,024,232 failed for LIGHTS
661,282 failed for TYRES
570,999 failed for STEERING/SUSPENSION
447,078 failed for BRAKES
379,266 failed for GLAZING

I am pleased to see I might be a little safer on the roads with all of the above cars having to be repaired or taken of the roads.

rsr72, Oct 12, 5:02pm
Not at 6mths though, and nor does any country.
Britain is considering changing to first at 4 years, then second after 2 years.
The USA, the true home of the automobile, has none whatsoever.

NZ's WOFs are a rort.

rpvr, Oct 12, 7:24pm
No fails for loud exhausts, yet I hear constant noise from vehicles obviously non-compliant with the law. Confirms what I have long thought.

scuba, Oct 12, 7:33pm
What makes you think we aren't!
We've led the world on occasion whose to say we aren't now!

I've seen too many cars in dangerous states to leave it up to the average motorist to maintain their own car.
most of whom have no idea what state their car is in

olskinflint, Oct 12, 7:49pm
Yeah in the old days of the 'pommy made rust buckets' and rack and pinion steerin fair enough. But modern cars and associated tech/specs should get by on an annual inspection no worries. Get some unnesessary costs and rules/ regulation out of our lives, folks.

phlippy, Oct 12, 8:00pm
because they would do what i do on my bike and change the muffler for wof

neverl8, Oct 12, 8:42pm
There is data on Exhausts I just didn't show all I have in here just the top 7 reasons

vjregal770, Oct 12, 9:24pm
Well, apart from Delaware, Hawaii, Louisiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia and West Virginia, anyway.

vjregal770, Oct 12, 9:39pm
Don't mind making it annually, bit I'm not for abolishing it altogether. It would be nice if your average tightfisted Kiwi could be relied upon to maintain his/her car to some reasonable level, but sadly that appears not to be the case. Hence the need to hold the proverbial hand and wipe the proverbial bum at times. I've long lost count of the deadsh1ts that come in to work (usually in a jap import 4WD, replete with $800 personalised plate) wanting to pay no more than 40 or 50 bucks for a 2nd hand tyre (with 90+ % tread left of course).

The WoF regime isn't a rort - the government blabbering on about "the money you'll save" is the rort as it'll reappear (and then some) in the form of increased ACC levies on rego etc as more piles of crap end up on the road through never having to be checked for anything ever.

You are a true cockhead, all you are doing is trying to promote your business. We can all get those statistics from NZTA.

llortmt, Oct 13, 5:27am
Not to mention smog testing in others!

neverl8, Oct 13, 6:49am
Hey thank you for the "cockhead" label. Not trying to do anything more than be enthusiastic and helpful to the various discussions around WoF. As to "any of us can get the info from NZTA" . WRONG! This data and tonnes of other data pertaining to FINES WOF REGO RUC we possess was gathered from multiple sources and cleansed by us. For example the Data shown above is nowhere in the the public domain it's due to our persistent efforts via OIR legislation. Like you share your cockhead remarks we're sharing our data. Now tell the community you're promoting your business www.im-a-cockhead.com

Have you ever watched Cops or Pimp My Ride! The cars on these shows are the reason we should keep wof checks

vjregal770, Oct 14, 2:41pm
Unlike most, I don't get my information of the US from 4th-rate TV shows.
