seriousily, the ranger and the hilux are such different vehicles to a crap wall ute that they can't be compared. The idea of suggesting them in the same context is like offering a Kia when someone is asking for help deciding between a Rolls or a Bentley.

Seriously Skiff (seriously spelled right) If it walks like a dog, barks like a dog and looks like a dog - It's probably a dog.Great Wall is where Toyota was 25 years ago (we called them Jap Crap - and some idiots still do) GW trucks MAY not be up to the highest standards yet BUT they can do most things right. The Ford is, as was pointed out just a badge engineered Mazda BT50 and nearly all cars have parts from other brands. . . .when deciding what to buy, You ask around, pay your money and hope you made the right choice.

Pity you only have the two in mind. both built from a car platform. Where as the Isuzu D-Max has true truck heritage and is built truck tough. Well worth a look at.

Can't be that reliable if you have to work on them all the time

that being the case, I might just buy a Great Wall ute in twenty five years, in the mean time I will buy the ute that does the business now. Frankly when I am pulling a three and a half tonne trailer, I want to know the brakes on my ute are going to work.

really, what car is the ranger based on! Is the hilux based on a corolla! This sounds like a line trotted out by the Isuzu dealers.

Seriously Nathan, Sounds like you work for a Ford Agent - Jeez, of course you're going to hear about some Toyota Hiluxes having mech problems - They outnumber every other brand on the NZ Market, probably any TWO brands combined - and not all owners take servicing rules too seriously. That's areal problem with diesels. BUT I've been in the transport industry for 30 years and never heard horror stories about Hiluxes gthat weren't caused by stupidity. And no, I don't work for or have any alliance with Toyota.

based on this logic the hilux has the best heritiage- because the hilux is based on a hilux, and for the last 30 years in nz everyone has loved the hilux - and most to this day still do.part of why they are so expensive. to buy or sell

The crash test ratings are not very good for great wall. Ute was only getting 2 stars. Governments need to make sure new cars have at least 3 star ratings. Otherwise great wall is good value for money and crash test results are the last thing on buyers mind when buying a new car.
