Do you get it and if so how much per day/week for having your own tools at work!

mugenb20b, Oct 24, 5:05pm
Yes. $12 per week.

cathair, Oct 24, 6:54pm
Is there a minimum amount you should be paid or is it up to the employer to decide!

mugenb20b, Oct 24, 7:08pm
I'm not sure on that one, the last three garages I worked for did not provide tool allowance. I guess you could negotiate some kind of a deal.

tnt423, Oct 24, 7:12pm
I get $5 a week used to get nothing at my old job, don't really know what it would cover tho.

gadgit3, Oct 24, 8:21pm
I get $12 per week and a set of boots per year. I run the workshop now so the $12 covers plasters for paper cuts lol

bikeparts_ltd, Oct 24, 8:24pm
an extra dollar an hour seems to be the go from when we looked at paying it

unbeatabull, Oct 25, 5:17am
I get the equivalent of around $15/week. Doesn't really cover anything though. Still nice to get it.

mm12345, Oct 25, 6:47am
That's getting reasonable IMO.Jeesh - $5/week is a joke.

splinter67, Oct 25, 7:14am
so the 20 cents an hour we used to get wasnt great oh well never mind see why I went driving instead

gadgit3, Oct 25, 7:35am
Thats a good tool allowence $40-$50 per week. I have never heard an allowence being that high in the car mechanical trade but would expect it in the heavy diesel trade.
The tool allowance is for the upkeep of tools mainly not so much to go out and stock up on tools, as if you leave you take your tools and I would think you would be hard pressed to ware/damage $20 worth of tools every week! I know I don't lol

stevo2, Oct 25, 3:21pm
I get nothing perweek :(

ladatrouble, Oct 25, 3:25pm
It used to be a non taxable allowance - now it's in your employment contract.or more likely not.

mm12345, Oct 25, 4:04pm
That would figure. It darned well should be deductible - it's hardly a "perk".
I bet the montblanc pen used by the politician who signed that one off was claimed as a legitimate expense, as was the bottle of chateaux mouton rothschild he drank to celebrate his success.

tnt423, Oct 25, 4:07pm
Yea $260 a year doesn't cover much.

mm12345, Oct 25, 4:13pm
Hell no - I easily spend more than that on specialist "mechanic's" tools a year, and I'm not a mechanic - just a tinkerer.

unbeatabull, Oct 25, 4:59pm
Basically a Snap On spanner or ratchet. lol

alan1111, Oct 25, 5:01pm
$10.00 a week i get plus boots every year. And if i need new tools i just tell my employer and he buys them for the workshop, so my tool money is basically a few beers on Friday night lol.

alan1111, Oct 25, 5:06pm
I still got my 1st set of spanners from 28 years ago Sidchrome infact still got preety much all of my Apprentice tools still. I can remember making brake hose clamps during Block Course in 1st year off apprenticeship 28 yrs ago, i use them at least once a week.
Had a 15 year phase of Snap-On tools but now just buy what ever. Got 3 tool kits roll cabs etc. 1 at work, 1 at home and 1 with my olds in their garage hate o think what have spent on tools over the years be close to 50k i reckon.

cuda.340, Oct 25, 5:20pm
i get $40 pw for tool allowance. i have it put in a company held account. if i need/want to buy something, i use a company account to purchase the tools, the company claims the GST back so my purchases are GST free.

johnf_456, Oct 25, 6:04pm
No allowance here

a.woodrow, Oct 25, 7:11pm
Used to get $15 a week. never went very far

carclan, Oct 26, 10:43am
In 1995 when I worked for a nation wide company it was around $10.25 a week, I'm not sure if this helps.

jmma, Oct 26, 10:48am
AVI's don't use any tools.(o:

splinter67, Oct 26, 10:58am
hehehehe
