Make one using flat and with bevels for weld around spare nutFinish with reinforcing around welded segment and weld to any old socket

Have you tried the local markets!Amazing what we find on market stalls in terms of older stuff at reasonable prices.
Would a box spanner do just as well or don't people use box spanners any more!
saxman99,

Yes, of course.Much easier.

Perhaps use a normal socket and cut in two. Weld a piece of steel pipe the required length in between. This has worked well for me in the past and doesnt take too long. Good luck.

it is just a very deep socket because it has to go to the axle. A spanner wouldn't work unfortunately because on the 4 pins for the wheel nuts get in the way!

I went to supercheap in Lyall Bay, min was $65 and that wasn't even deep!

Hmm well the invercargill supercheap isn't very big but they had quite a few sizes there. It was SCA brand, they had them hanging off the racks and they were all very reasonable priced deep reach sockets. Maybe ask if they can order in!

Still find a box spanner very useful. But there again, mine are all of a decent grade of steel and not the cardboard of some modern stuff.

Dunno what vehicle this is, but not sure why it's the wheel studs that would block a spanner.don't they, well, move!

Brought 1 about 1 year ago, new for something like $15, tool warehouse place (can't remember exact name) 1/2" drive for the same job, fwd CV nut.

I got a 36mm 1/2 inch drive socket from either Repco or Supercheap in Porirua. Would not have paid more than 20 bucks for it, Used it to take the rear drum off a VW beetle with a giant cheater pipe.
a.woodrow,

Yes - just a cheap store brand one - stood up to me swinging on it with my strong arm bar + a piece of pipe, so it passes the test and lives with the rest of the tools

Think you'll find supercheap only goes up to 32 in1/2 inch drive, repco might have one in power built but i would shop at George Henry and co or trade tools.
