Thanks for the heads up, looks they are getting desperate.

I've reported the two usernames to trademe. I'm all for everyone having an opinion, but this is just a underhanded tactic from a corporate entity trying desperately to protect their own interests

a18a, Oct 26, 4:04pm
has to be someone trolling the mta. surely they aren't that desperate to come onto an online forum to defend themselves

johnf_456, Oct 26, 4:05pm
I will as well

aragorn2003, Oct 26, 4:07pm
Wow must be getting desperate with their blanket campaign if they have people posting crud on here.

johnf_456, Oct 26, 4:08pm
They sure are very desperate to look after their gold mine.

Our inspectors average half an hour for a WOFcan take 3/4 of an hour for a difficult one by the time the paperwork etc as all been done. I would be worried as to how they managed to do a check in 10 minutes. Some of the costs aside from the mechanics hourly rate, The WOF Stickers and WOF pads that you have to use. To become a WOF site cost us close to $700 then there are repeat checks depending on your rating again at $700 a pop. Each hoist has to be maintained and serviced each year. The beam setter, brake rollers etc etc all have to be regulararly caliberated again at a cost, The inspectors are going on an update course next week (compulsary) at $175 each. WOFS need a separate computer again that needs to be updated. Let alone power, insurance, rates, phone, internet for warrant computer etc etc etc. let alone doing free rechecks on cars that have failed on a list a mile long. Should I carry on. Our customers have signalled to us they would still get checks but if they are prepared to pay for services etc they actually care. It is the ones who drive all the way across town to get a cheap warrant are the ones that won't get them anymore but yeah not directly effecting me.
Get rid of the huge rego costs that will save me a fortune on loan cars but considering a 2011 Mazda BT -50 on its first warrant today failed on brake padsand tyres I don't think the system should change.

Oh I think they are, MTA is deeply concerned about a large drop in revenue from its VTNZ chain and about a significant decrease in its membership empire in the form of a large number of lower volume AVIC's disappearing. Anyone who can think for themselves and knows actual stats re the amount of injury and death causing crashes where a roadworthy issue has been the direct cause of the crash realise that the campaign is commercially driven and phoney. All of their material continues to be devoid of any real reasons why inspection intervals need to be double what they are anywhere else on earth.

It is not compulsary to to update courses helsbels2. But it should be.

If ya can't afford $50 twice a year for a warrent which really isnt that bigga deal(is it!) then you obviously can not afford to be a car owner. Or are all the HP items, credit card debt and so on leave you in the red each week!
It breaks down to about 28cents a day LOL.
Or is just the fear that they may find something wrong and it will tip the debt over.
Least ya getting something for ya money, and not every one has a hoist at home to do a full underbody check let alone know what there looking at anyway.
Get the rego's down would be better. Can not say I see much of an improvement in our roading as a result of paying it, worse if anything.
Thats what I think anyway, hell every 3 months wouldnt bother me.
Or it could be some who have multiple cars who are pissed at paying. And if you can afford multiple cars whats $50 every 6 months.

helsbels2, Oct 26, 4:54pm
But if they haven't been it is counted against your score for the audit so you get more frequent visits and more cost.

supernova2, Oct 26, 7:09pm
Look anywhere in Rotorua and you will find that.I know of one stupid tart who hasnt had a wof or rego for eight years.car in cuzzys name who is in oz so noone paying the fines either.

What do you do with people like that!Lead poisioning sounds a good option to me.

Sell the car and walk problem solved.

kiwi_fisherman, Oct 26, 10:40pm
Bit of a hornets nest. I accept there are a lot of setup costs and costs associated with running a testing station. But lets not forget at the end of the day it's a business and as a business its out to make money. VTNZ have been very successful in NZ and are continually expanding. Possibly what we need is a viable alternative Testing Station business. One that does not make quite as much on each car but examines more cars to make up the shortfall. I would like to know just how many vehicles VTNZand any other Testing Stations have examined in the last 12 months at $50 a car then break it all down. Got to be some Fat Cats somewhere.

No warrents, problem solved,no one will get killed unless they are idiots, who drives a car with shitty brakes or massive steering slop, those that are rich get the cars fixed, those that are poor but have some knowledge fix the problem themselfs and the rest wouldnt have the brains to drive fast so not an issue. Cars built after 2000 just dont break and thats the ave.age of the nz fleet. with the steelbelted tire, disc front brakes, duel circutt brakes and power steering, the chances of the cars being dangerous is scare tactics by the MTA to protect a gold mine and anyone that cant tell if somethings wrong with the car shouldnt have a licence.

2,277199 vehicles on the road NZ june 2007 times 50 dollars = 113,859,950 bucks twice a year, not a bad income

socram, Oct 27, 8:09am
You have overlooked the simple facts. Many cars do not get a WoF every six months, they are on annual warrants and secondly, not all places charge $50.Income is only half the equation. You have to incorporate the costs.

As to a viable alternative to VTNZ, they already exist.AA has a place not 100m away from the North Shore testing station.

VTNZ North Shore are not as busy as they used to be, but that simply means that the overheads percentage goes up.

If all three lanes are not going, all day, each delay or quiet time, theoretically is a loss of overhead recovery, but most of the overheads stay the same.

The best way to reduce major overheads on any business is to run a 24/7 operation, but as most motorists are not going to take their vehicle for a warrant at 3am, VTNZ are not going to do it!
