Check for leaking, especially on the point where you drained the radiatior.
when it warms up and watch the needle keep heater on hot so the coolant mixes up and then the fan should kik in from the radiator

intrade, Nov 13, 7:23pm
i supose you drained it on the tap that most radiators have!

kiwis, Nov 13, 7:25pm
No I took the bottom radiator hose off to do it.

intrade, Nov 13, 7:27pm
ok when it is hot you got to retighten the hose clamp or it will leak there. dont strip the clamp.
when its hot the rubber gets soft and the clamp loose unless its a self clamping unit like some toyota have.

kiwis, Nov 13, 7:29pm
Its a self clamp type one intrade.I really hope I havent made the problem worse than before I started. Appreciate your expertise as I think I bit off more than I should chew with this.

intrade, Nov 13, 7:32pm
I would be more concearned about the fact what car make it is.
mitsubishi are one of the world leaders for broken automatic transmissions. and i hope you dont have a GDI

kiwis, Nov 13, 7:33pm
Are you suggesting I change the automatic transmission oil!

les6, Nov 13, 7:34pm
noway, good on you for having a go and then asking for help.

kiwis, Nov 13, 7:34pm
My day is getting worse intrade it is a GDI.!

kiwis, Nov 13, 7:36pm
Costs are horrendous to take to garage for servicing so I take on doing the basics.and people on here seem really helpful.

intrade, Nov 13, 7:37pm
no lol you be screwing that one up big time
all you can do is check the transmission fluid
its mesured with engine going and if you cant get a reading you have to mesure it 10 secounds after engine is off . Dont start pouring stuff in there. depending what trans its got it might havedextron 3 that should look nice and red like redwine. if its brown then it be due for a service of the transmission.

fordkiwi27, Nov 13, 7:41pm
problem!what problem!

kiwis, Nov 13, 7:42pm
lol intrade.I think thats a little bit ambitious.the transmission oil.I do think its probably heading more towards a browny colour. I did think about topping it up.but will leave it now thanks to your advice. Think its about $350 to have all the trans oil changed.grrrrrr!

kiwis, Nov 13, 7:44pm
Problem with filling radiator up with concentrate anti freeze.

intrade, Nov 13, 7:47pm
trans dont needs topping up unless its got a leaking issue . So dont do that Yea its not cheap as the fluids alone cost 160$ you need 12to 14 liter dextron 3 for trans with dextron. Best guy for automatic trans service is advanced automaticwhangarei. He will explain what goes wrong and costs involved.
I just got me some servicing items from them for a corolla i just purchased from one of my clients who move back to europe.

intrade, Nov 13, 7:48pm
for Gdi engine service you need a better place non in whangarei them are complet morons there at mitsi. told methey dontcheck valves on engines so dont evergo there.

kiwis, Nov 13, 7:50pm
Wow thats a lot of oil.my last car was a Subaru which I had serviced in Whangarei they did do a good job, car went much better, its just a matter of cost at the moment.

kiwis, Nov 13, 7:52pm
Theres a mitsy dealer in Kaitaia I will check them out.they did my cambelts a while back.will get a firm quote from them and ask lots of questions which they dont like.

intrade, Nov 13, 7:52pm
important things i could see on gdi is the fuelfilter should be changed often. to try and stop damage to the expensive gasoline-direct-injection pump thats what gdi stands for. Best be if somone knows a Gdi speciallist
or sell it befor its doing a poooo.

intrade, Nov 13, 7:54pm
if they cant answer your questions about gdi then dont even bother with them , the guy from the trans place will tell you all and every detail he is a real competent person for othersreading this i asked him today They also do have the tools for DSG vw trans so he be the guy and he can Do ctv trans also the lot he knows em all and probably even got parts on the shelf.

I am liking the sound of sell it before it spits the dummy. It has expensive tyres as well.so best I sort this radiator now.oils done.will update WOF and give it a good polish.

intrade, Nov 13, 7:58pm
be warned you wont probably get mutch as most know that gdi also standsfor bomb.

kiwis, Nov 13, 8:01pm
It looks nice.so I will endeavour to sell it to someone who doesnt know what GDI stands for.lol

LATER
Can i simply ask if it was hot or cold when you drained it!
If it was hot please remove the top radiator hose from the radiator and fill the engine block via the top radiator hose.
Ya see late model engines have the old thermostat.
ic valve-closes cold-opens hot
Fitted in the bottom of the engine.
One can drain the block when hot and when the ole thermostat closes the radiator may be full but the engine can be empty.
Therefore CHECK the engine is full by removing the top hose from the radiator and filling the engine via it.
