It will be the lanz. they had one horizontal cylinder that stuck out forwards. about a foot in diameter from memory. Like some old stationary motor fitted to a tractor unit. I think they might have been open sump even. Great old things those old motors.
The lads listers and andersons are all from the twenties and perhaps up to the fifties, very early fifties. and they all run sweet. He even made himself a new gudgeon pin for one of the old andersons. He was discussing it on an old engine forum and reckoned he might have to make one, the old coots were all telling him that they had to be made of chrome-moly steel. but he know the old one wasn't, just heat treated. He made one, heat treated and polished it. it's as good as a new one.

Thats pretty good,he must be pretty good in the workshop.Ive got a six cylinder austin petrol here and im going to put it in a petrol nuffield to replace the 4 cylinder. It will go from 40 hp up tp about a 100hp.

Are you sure the gearbox and all will handle the torque! I've seen damage done after people have changed from petrol to diesel, and it is always the torque, often gone bang on the throttle off and overrun. Be careful.Oh, just reread and see it's a petrol nuffield. me bad. still a big jump in horsepower though.
My wife died when the lads were two and four, so they have been bought up in the workshop. even got home-schooled in it. He was fourteen when he made the gudgeon, figured out how to make case hardening powder out of charcoal, and rolled it in it a heap of times while it was red hot, then quenched it in oil. it came out nice and hard.

That volvo reminds me of a workmate who was rushing home on a 165 fergie that would do 45 kay, that tractor could move.He didn't get home as tie rod came of and fergie lurched round straight into a concrete power pole.Driver went over bonnet into ditch and pole hit the seat.driver is still alive but tractor split in half.

Whoo, lucky huh. A fellah up here parked a zetor with no brakes at the top of a hill to open a gate, then it started to roll away so he jumped on to shove it in gear but it was going too fast and he couldn't get it in, ended up speeding down the hill, off a jump which threw him, and the tractor broke the front diff, the gearbox, flipped, and was smashed to bits. he walked away.

It's best to leave tractors alone if they want to run away.I seen a tractor move one day and i let it go as i wasn't killing myself over it.They still make them.Lucky it run down to a flat and stopped.

What we call a MF 28 is actually a MF TE20, which came out with a lot of different motors in the,. We here in NZ called ours MF 28s cause that was the commonest Hp rating we got here. They was a motor that was about 24 Hp, so that might have been what he had.

No BMC. There is a private vintage machinery museum down the coast though that has a live day. My lad helps out there. I go to watch. and fetch the water and fuel. It's great to see the old motors chugging away. The lad starts and monitors a heap of motors and answers any questions.
