It happened to me again, first time was in April 2002, then again on Saturday 23 Nov. Driving north (Toyota MR-S), raining, 50kph road work restriction, slowed to legal limit for restriction (50kph), 5 other vehicles not wishing to adhere to restriction accumulate behind me, clear restricted zone and resume at 100kph or so, 2 or 3 Km??

chovik, Nov 24, 6:17am
So what questions should you ask when you believe that you have been falsely accused of an incorrect speed!ie dopler tone.what is that!

mugenb20b, Nov 24, 6:21am
I don't know what you can do legally, but the exact same thing happened to my wife a couple of years ago. She always sticks to or just under the speed limit and I know for a fact the speedo in her car is about 5km/h out (100km/h is close to 95). But, anyway, on Wellington motorway she was singled out from a group of 4 cars and was issued a ticked for doing 108km/h (!). She attempted to prove the cop wrong, but to no avail. We just ended up paying the $60 ticket.

therafter1, Nov 24, 6:33am
Doppler is basically the principle that the device operates on, and the doppler tone is what an éxperienced??

therafter1, Nov 24, 6:36am
I discovered what I could do legally in 2002 Mugen, bugger all, after much twoing and frowing and letters and frustration I was convicted and fined for an offence that I had not committed.

pollymay, Nov 24, 6:57am
Sounds like an arrogant cop who believes his own rubbish about it never being wrong.

aliru, Nov 24, 7:09am
why did you do 2 or 3 kms with that annoying group of cars behind you. if you pulled over and let them pass they wouldnt have been annoying you.

therafter1, Nov 24, 7:21am
I was waiting for someone like you.

Did you not see the mention of three bridges and armcos !

I usually travel at the legal limit and don??

therafter1, Nov 24, 7:23am
Oh I see, you appear to have missed the 1 and the 0 before the 3 !

aliru, Nov 24, 7:32am
yes GOD . every one should travel at your speed. if you let them pass they would have got the ticket.

therafter1, Nov 24, 7:39am
Whatever, the next time I acquire an accumulation thru adherence to posted limits I will immediately stop in a ridiculous location and request assistance from others to throw my vehicle over the side of the bridge/armco so that the temporary accumulation can resume their journey with no further interference from me until I catch up to them again, travelling at posted limits . run along turkey, you are gobbling up the wrong tree !

aliru, Nov 24, 9:32am
yep. that confirms it

therafter1, Nov 24, 9:48am
"

All it confirms is that you cannot (a) read, and (b) that I haven??

flitt, Nov 24, 10:30am
There are circumstances in your story which would have made a reasonably good case to present for your defense in court, it seems, from what you have explained. If you had ended up in court, I think it would have worked out alright for you.

The admission of the lack of a doppler tone may have helped your defense, but it is not an instant 'get away with it' issue.

It happens, I suppose. You were right to state your innocence. Don't be too hard on the cop. Even the guilty ones claim they are innocent. Perhaps your driving record convinced the cop you weren't speeding and said cop believed you after all.

petal_91, Nov 24, 11:05am
You're the one in the sports car though. You attracted attention to yourself. Perhaps the officer's set locked onto the granny in the Golf or something, but you're the one he picked on due to your go-fast in appearance vehicle.

flitt, Nov 24, 11:09am
Maybe so, but that's a particularly shallow outlook on this.

delerium1, Nov 24, 12:01pm
doesnt matter unacceptable justification and you are showing your poor atittude as well.

OP this happens often, the trick is they generally leave the reading of the last vehicle up and ping you for that too. I know a few people that have been done for it, fought it with varying results. I v seen cops lie in court when when these charges have been defended too.

therafter1, Nov 24, 12:02pm
Possibly yes Flitt, assuming that the officer wouldn??

therafter1, Nov 24, 12:11pm
That shouldn??

vtecintegra, Nov 24, 12:14pm
Still wouldn't prove it was your vehicle that the reading applied to - there is always going to be a certain amount of trust placed in how the operator is using the equipment

therafter1, Nov 24, 12:20pm
I don??

elect70, Nov 24, 1:28pm
Get a good detector orbuild ascrambler (concealed ) thatputs outstrong signal around the 37.5Mhzmark , tellscop you doing 500 MPh .

phillip.weston, Nov 24, 1:37pm
I think he's asking why you didn't pull over in that 2 to 3km stretch to let the people behind you pass. Even though I mostly stick to the speed limit or slightly exceed it myself, if I find myself holding a few cars behind me up I will pull over and let them pass regardless.

therafter1, Nov 24, 2:14pm
In an attempt to keep the OP as brief as possible whilst also trying to explain the scenario I omitted certain factors pre the incident. I had caught up to the vehicles that were behind me prior to the Taihape deviation (the long uphill about 7km north of Taihape with a passing lane for almost its entire length). They were all following too closely and were braking and speeding up and so on, so I had passed the lot of them on the passing lane on the deviation. When I reached the 50kph temporary restriction for road work I slowed to the temporarily restricted speed and they all caught up to me again because they didn???t obviously give a toss about showering everyone with rocks and other road work debris. At the conclusion of the restriction I had accelerated back to around about the open road speed limit knowing the nature of the road ahead and knowing that they were then all going to re-engage in the brake accelerate, brake accelerate carry on again knowing that in a minute or two I would gradually move ahead of them and they would no longer be a problem.

I always travel at or near to the legal limit, I don??
