Well ya might want to give a little more info how do you get it to start does it need to be jump started could be your batteryhave you checked your cap for moisture and what condition is the cap in
wizardoo,

no it wont jump start, and I went and bought a new battery so ticked that off the list then I bought a set of new plugs so ticked off the list.all electric windows etc work.I am not 100% sure what cap you are talking about. I have it in park well you can not really put it into any other gear untill its going Lol I turn the key and it makes a normal noise but the motor does not turn over or fire up. I am not sure of the terminology of it.

Your best to ask a mechanic as your description is not great but that's ok not everyone knows what happens under the bonnet the only thing that will happen on here is you will be confused and it sounds like a starter motor problem or could be a ring gear problem see your confused now btw distributor cap

How right you are splinter67 Lol,Is the starter motor something we can buy and put in! same with the cap want to do all we can so it wont cost so much time and mark up at the garage.

Ok probably not the distributor cap as for the starter motor you could get one from a wrecker and fit it yourself not that hardbut get it checked out by an auto sparky first otherwise you could be replacing parts for nothing

OP-by the tone of your posts you arent particularly mechanically minded. On that basis you have a bit of a problem. Not starting when its cold and damp suggests "something" in your electrical system.-But "something" could be one of a reasonable number of things. This means you could replace several items that actually aren't faulty before finding the cause of your problem. Heres a few thoughts I've had. Spark plug leads,Rotor cap, alarm wiring.CDI. Now I diddn't think long and hard to imagine any of those being the cause. So IMO you need to bite the bullet and take the car to a sparkie. Not that replacing those items is a bad thing but you'll be paying to replace parts that aren't worn out IncidentlyYou say your car is a 1989 Honda CRVdo you mean CRX or have you just got the year of the vehicle wrong!

Old mate of mine many years ago had a cat that used to do that for him . "used to" . (think >>> mince).
Wasn't too happy about the other damage either (AND then the wife & kids found out)

Does 1988 sound better!,And I appreciate your help.So it would most likley be electrics, so if I take it to a auto sparky and not a garage it would be better. I dont have a CD player and no alarm.but it is central locking with a push button thing.

Don't these have the coil up by the bonnet vents, used to put plastic over them to stop moisture.

A crv is a 1990's car and a crx could be a 1980's car. Most advice given above is generic to either but it would be usefull to know if its a 4x4 or a little hatchback. And yes going to a sparkie sounds like the best bet

Ok I am going to buy a new distributor cap 1st, If that is not it I am going to buy a new coil,In the mean time I will put a silver window screen under the bonnet as we are sure it is the moisture unless someone has a better way of protecting it from moisture short term. an if that does not work will save and take it to the garage but at least I can say it has new plugs, points, cap, coil.

Get it checked before you buy stuff thats not needed

take it to an auto sparky, could be lots of small things causing this, our crv has lived for 6 years outside and has never been a problem, the only fault was a ignition wire when you cranked it , the switch was worn and unless you backed the key off a tiny bit the ingnition lights would go off and thhe engine would stop. Easy fix. cheers.

OH for F.sake. what about the choke, if this has the twin carby set up they are notorious for the wax thermostat in the intake choke system to jam open / closed. take the air cleaner cover off and squirt a bit engine start or petrol into the carbs and try !butREMOVE your face from the engine bay b4 u try
