Spray some CRC on your coil lead, make sure there's no m oisture there, also check your earth wire, it's normally a metal strap that goes to the body on the firewall.clean and tighten.

Well it starts fine now it has stopped raining for a few hours so it has to be a moisture problem.

So are you saying when the problem happens that the motor does or does not make the normal wurr wurr wurr noise of cranking over cause that sentence is a bit confusing.

This model have the coil built into the distributor!Less likely to be moisture related, maybe temperature! Pretty expensive to replace these ones were from memory.

Honda CRV's did have an issue with faulty ignition switches, not sure how hard it would be to DIY replace one .

I had a customer with a similar problem. It was the result of a damaged cambelt which caused extra resistance when the ignition cylinders were cold.Basically what was happing was that the pistons were going up and down but they have broken off the camshaft and we hitting the top of the engine head. The car needed an engine overhaul.Because of the broken engine head the auxiliary belts stopped working and the water pump and power steering went. The owner of the car came over to my place and we agreed that I would fix the engine up for a couple of strokes of her oyster.
