or less! just doing our pre xmas clean up for a little play money for our holiday.

kazbanz, Dec 16, 1:17pm
logical answer is less--strong dollar is good for imports bad for exports

r.g.nixon, Dec 16, 1:25pm
Less - assuming the metal is priced in US dollars.

bellky, Dec 16, 1:42pm
I'm going to go the other way.

More.

Scrap metal price in US dollars then if our dollar is rising relative to the US$ then we get more (NZ) dollars.

3tomany, Dec 16, 1:44pm
answer as kaz said is less if it is being exported

Fine if you could use US dollars in NZ. You can't, so they must be exchanged, and that is where you lose out, as you recieve less NZ dollars in return because it is a higher valued currency

bellky, Dec 16, 2:05pm
Looks like I'm going to have to spell it out yet again.

We provide scrap metal commodity to market @ US$ price $1000/ton.

So we get US$1000.00 for our ton.

The situation at exchange rate:
1 US$ : 0.75 NZ$ = 750.00NZ$.

Now situation at exchange rate:
1 US$ : 0.85 NZ$ = 850.00NZ$.

Wish I was as thick yous.

Ever considered going back to school! :P

NZ dollar buys $0.75 US = $1333 NZ
NZ dollar buys $0.85 US = $1176 NZ

splinter67, Dec 16, 2:32pm
Bugger he never would have figured that out

intrade, Dec 16, 2:40pm
Amount :
NZD 1.2 = USD 1.00
Exchange rate for buying
international money transfers :
NZD 1 = USD 0.8316
This rate is current as at :

easy mistake to make with both dollers bu sell mixups

Amount :
USD 1.00 = NZD 1.16
Exchange rate for selling
international money transfers :
USD 0.8618 = NZD 1
This rate is current as at :

if nz$ is high compaired to us$ then you get more for scraphowever that is not mutch of a factor as the nz$ does not fluctuate mutch and if it did we would not be able to sell mutch to the export as to high a new zealand doller would mean our scrap is to expensive for them to buy from uss ,would mean we cant export mutch= lower prices for you at scrap metal newzealand places.
quite tricky to figure it .

jmma, Dec 16, 2:53pm
Is that you bellky (o:

bellky, Dec 16, 2:59pm
We're not buying US$ dummy :)

bellky, Dec 16, 3:03pm
The scrap metal price is a commodity price and so doesn't fluctuate according to our dollar strength; hence the stronger our dollar is against the US dollar the more dollars we get in exchange.

bellky, Dec 16, 3:04pm
This is correct.
