You guys are right and I was wrong.

Woops :)

theram1, Dec 16, 3:58pm
it takes a big man to admit his mistake.:0)you could have waited until after the bad names and foul language.:0)

intrade, Dec 16, 4:00pm
its because they buy your scrap. not you there scrap

bellky, Dec 16, 4:00pm
You get paid in US$ but they have depreciated against the NZ$ so you actually get less.

:)

Like stevexc says:
1000/.75=1333
1000/.85=1176

splinter67, Dec 16, 4:02pm

skiff1, Dec 16, 5:46pm
if we're as thick as us, you might be able to walk and chew gum. Stick to you knitting genius, 'cause you certainly ain't the next governor of the reserve bank!

skull, Dec 16, 6:37pm
Kaz was correct at #2 so he should get the fish.

3tomany, Dec 16, 7:54pm
yes you were wrong but i dont know why so many posters were so abusive about it. Seems like a pack of a holes has taken over motoring, bring back the old school it was so much fun here a while ago.

ksam, Dec 17, 6:05am
Perhaps it was because of the last sentence in his post, informing people they were thick, not the best way to win friends or happy comments.

skiff1, Dec 17, 6:16am
maybe because, not only was he wrong, he called all the people who were right thick. Hardly endearing.

brouser3, Dec 17, 6:17am
How many tons do you have!Unless you have quite a bit or can take it to the scrap merchant yourself, you'll probably be lucky to come out even. NZ road transport costs are not cheap. Then there is the ''processing''-
ie removal of foreign materials (eg copper in motor windings), pressing and baling, shipping to the port etc.I believe many ''recyclers'' eg the paper, plastic, tin cans etc, actually charge a fee to the local authority to be able to collect the items, to make upfor the shortfall which they anticipate when they sell the material on.It's not profit which is the underlying driver (excuse the pun) for recycling, butthe international demands from the powers that be about environmental awarness and sustainability.

skiff1, Dec 17, 6:26am
I have sold quite a lot of scrap in the past couple of years, in lots as small as a ute load at a time. The scrappy has come out to pick it up, and I have made a couple of grand out of it. The prices for scrap are good enough to motivate me.

bellky, Dec 17, 7:18am
Yup good thread.

kazbanz, Dec 17, 8:45am
Mate I hope I'm right or Ive been costing myself thousands in exchange rates.

elect70, Dec 17, 12:28pm
Check the scrap metaldealersnot all pay the same .price .

3tomany, Dec 17, 6:21pm
belky is a bit harsh at times but he did admit he was wrong and some here just try and wind him up for no reason destroying someones thread, just to abuse belky, like him or hate him people shouldnt ruin other peoples thread just to get at belky or anyone else for that matter

skiff1, Dec 17, 6:40pm
so he's "a bit harsh" calling us thick, but we are all abusive and "ruining" a thread by responding in a similar vein! You dish it out, you ought to be ready to be served the same dish.

mr_lovebug, Dec 17, 6:45pm
Not read the thread,I have found that it comes down to the stock piles that are stored, for those that are buying from the metal dealers.

I have been getting into scrap metal,Now days is better prices than back in 2000/2001 when I did it last, but have been told the other day that the buying country is not paying as much as they have a large stock pile.

Also the it's not the USD that is getting used.

Hope that is a help.
