Or perhaps I just know more than you and how it really is.

I think you will find you are the one that needs to get his facts right first, and I'll accept your apology once you wake up.
Please show me where i accused anyone dearlership of ripping anyone off! You cant because its not what I said. That is something you have just made up!
I purposely used the term "company" as I dont know which company along the chain is the one causing the inflated price! Manufacturer! dealer!
I never stated "dealership" or "franchise"
Those are terms you have used. Not me!
Feel free to apologise now!

You got it, keys are a security item are they not! They should not be treated any differently to any other items that are portable and valuable, like cash or jewellery or gold bars or anything else. People are careless its as simple as that. This means they should be given adequate care and their whereabouts known at all times, preferably kept on ones person or in a secure location.

They are expensive because the gear to program them is expensive $20 apop and a hour of your time doesn't cover the cost of a $20000 machine

I landed a pair of genuine Lexus keys from Ebay in the US for 1/3 the NZ price. I got them cut by a local locksmith in Pukekohe. it was still not a cheap exercise, but better than it could have been. Looking on Ebay now, i see there are aftermarket ones fo rsome models for $US13 + progrmaming. Some cars have a DIY progrmaming method, some needa locksmith. It certainly pays to shop around.

Almost bet it could have been found on ebay in the uk for about $100 to the door.I find that all the time with Renault parts.Somewhere between Europe and the Kiwi customer there is a huge inflate of the price. If its the factory ripping off the NZ dealer then it would make sense (to me) for the NZ dealer to buy the bits on ebay and on sell them.Even a 100% markup would make them at least 75% cheaper than they are now.

here is a example that i know who rips you off packandsave whangarei sold some honey for 18$ it had the lable from the local guy and i know for a fact he sells it to people for 7$so even he made a profit at 7 and packand not save would surely not have paid him 7$ and then they lie on tv that they only put 25% markup maximum.
