ACC levy should be collected at the pump. If you dont buy the gas (petrol/diesel) you dont pay the acc levey. You are not exposed to the risk on the road if you are not driving the vehicle. Easy enough to drive an un licenced vehicle and have a crash and then collect ACC for you injury or off work income. Try telling that to a private insurance company " so i didnt pay my premimum last month but her is my claim for my vehicle that I crashed". They will laugh you out the door !

Not all fuel bought 'at the pump' is used on the road.

and those that can be bothered already claim back excise & ACC where they are able

eta

In saying that, a petrol passenger car that travels 14,000km/yr and does 7.5l/100km will pay an extra 19c/L to cover the $200 ACC levy on the vehicles license.

Will be interesting to see the judgement, but methinks he's pushing it uphill. The current legislation is certainly not as clear but as it used to be, however Sec 4 of the Land Transport (Motor Vehicle Registration and Licensing) Regulations 2011 does state that an application must be in a form acceptable to the Registrar. The authority of the Registrar is set up elsewhere. By issuing his own registration he has not complied.

He wrote to the then police District Commander for Northland, Superintendent Mike Rusbatch, police prosecutions, Crown Law, Chief Justice and to the NZTA but none could point out specific sections in the relevant legislation that required him to register his vehicle to the agency.

"The whole thing could have been sorted out if they'd answered my question," he said.

I wouldn't jump to too many conclusions about what he did or did not ask, and what they did or did not answer until the outcome.

Have you read the guys comments! Rights forged on the battlefield! Pfft. The chances of him giving a reporter a balanced view would be.slim.

Because ACC is the the most corruption system out there ! In 2002 when I was run over and almost died . From that day i have had to fright ACC for everything . ACC payed a doctor to say that my injuries were not cause by this accident ! That are a underlying condition ! so now i have too live with 5 disabilities and the pain that go,s with them ! So now i can,t work or get a job ! And no I don,t get winz or ACC or any help from anyone , but my wife . But the guy who did This to me walks away after the judge let him off because in the judges eyes it was my fault because i walked on to the road ! Thenhe said that it was ok because we have a very good system in place to look after me ! And ACC is that system and yes they have looked after well and truly.

my buddy comes to nz and the travel agents tell him not to get health insurance because nz has free acc. i cannot see why bloody tourists are not charged a $50 levy on all airtickets so they can pay there share

If your'e in business, ACC is a terrible resource hog that has very little benefit to those that pay the huge premiums.

ACC Good - When someone falls over in the park and hurts themselves.

ACC Useless - For anyone self employed

The later seems to pay more than once their far share of tax. Wankers
