what can I have the garage do about it! I rang them weeks ago to say i would like the check list for the car I bought. Gave him details etc. He said he'd look for it and ring me back. A week later I rang him back saying you never rang me back, He said oh i'll have a look in my other garage and ring you back, another week later so I ring back an tell him when I took the car to the AA they said they wouldn't have passed a few things. He said sorry can't find the check list but if I bring the car back to Mairangi Bay he'll check it out!. If my belief and the AA's belief that this wof maybe fake what can he do about it if I take it up!

What made you question the WOFin the first place, what one inspector passes another may fail, personal interpretation of the VIRM, so not a great dealif AA failed it for minor stuff depending on ???minor stuff???

I think I would treat this like any other workshop related issue, give the issuer a chance to inspect and clarify the situation. You need to clarify if you think the inspector has issued a WOF on a car that at the time of inspection, was not up to standard or if the sticker itself is fake.

I think you are misusing the word 'fake'.

a wof is not a service . the government should run adds about this instead of there drunk addsa wof is a check that the car is not going to cause a mayor accident in the next few days . anything after this is the owners responsibility to keep the vehicle up to a drivable save standard with tyres and all In europe when the cops stop you with a worn tyre its instant loss of license and the car is loaded on to the back of a truck it wont be driven another meter . and they got 5 year wof on new cars 3 years till its 10 year old then 2 years after that. and some real bombs only get 1 year.Taxi also must go for wof once a year.

Why do you think the WoF is "fake"! (Presumably you mean that it has a real WoF, but you and the AA think it shouldn't for some unspecified defect and consider that the Garage has been remiss in issuing the WoF).

No at the time I did a service they checked everything for the wof, this was a few days after I bought the car, One was rust in a few places, the main one was air bag light on, drive belt was very cracked, the odometre is 10kms/ph out. Rotor discs badly grooved and lipped, brake pads damaged, and some valve forgot the letters erg! eug! that supplies airflow! and yes ljack thanks, the AA did say some garages are different, they just said they wouldn't haven't passed it. An i've been going to AA with my other cars so I trust them. And what made me question it was after the service knowing these faults and in the auction a answered question was no mechanical faults, so when I tried contacting the seller no reply, I was also asked to get papers of the old wof check just to check what former issues it had and evern when asking for the proof of cambelt been done no reply, I've still been trying to contact him after a month but still no reply. I have only just received confirmation of his name and address so I can go to small claims. but this thread was more because when I rang the garage that did the wof they said to bring it up, so was wondering what can they do though if I was to take it up!
chazz6,
Dec 22, 8:40am
An i say fake because I know a lot of people that have contacts in wof places and have just given them money on the side or something for their mates or family to just pass wof's, it's very common.

Dec 22, 8:47am
An yes thunderbolt, you got that right and thats what I've been trying to do, but pretty hard when the garage that did it has no checklist. An intrade, I agree with wof ads over drunk ones, and I know wof isn't a service thats why I got both done. An honestly I could've been in a few accidents as when I came to a stop, is it called idling! ot timing! not sure but it'll pretty much just turn off and i'd have to start the car again.

hey dude if youre so sure the warrants a fake and want a new one go get one simple , people get wofs all the time and most dont care when it comes to what they have to do as long as it passes , heaps ve people buy a car with a wof then take it to their own garage and get a new wof issued self aware and consious of safety aye
carmad50,
Dec 22, 8:51am
fake warrants used to be wide spread then there s the places you go to .
chazz6,
Dec 22, 8:58am
really! because from what i'm told it has to be 14 days out from the old wof to get a new one! An I can tell you now, there are still a few places that do it. An Even if I can just go and get a new wof, it's still a big deal if this place had just issued a wof, with no checklist, and had just passed it on things that an AA wouldn't. Wouldn't you think that there should be one standard for every garage!
chazz6,
Dec 22, 9:00am
So your saying people won't care about how much they'd have to spend to get a wof done that shouldn't have been passed in the first place. I think your joking as most people are money concious now you think!
meathead_timaru,
Dec 22, 9:04am
So do I.
meathead_timaru,
Dec 22, 9:05am
That doesn't make the WOF a 'fake'.
meathead_timaru,
Dec 22, 9:15am
The word is 'and' not 'an'.
There is one standard. However, some of it is down to interpretation of the individual. Such as "Rotor discs badly grooved" - that depends on the individual's ability to be objective but the air bag light being on isn't - if it's on, it's a fail.
If you're concerned that the vehicle was given a WoF when it shouldn't have been, lay a complaint against the issuer with the NZTA.
chazz6,
Dec 22, 9:19am
sorry yes using the word fake wrong. I believe it shouldn't have been passed the wof. but don't want to waste my time going up there if there's nothing really he can do. he was actuall suppose to get back to me two weeks ago about when a good time to take it up was but still hasn't. An thanks I might just do that.

why should he give you a copy of thewof checksheet. You did not pay for it.Theres no requirement for him to do so.Your problem is with the seller .
smac,
Dec 22, 12:28pm
Right, so here's what you do: you return to the original inspection site. You explain the situation to the manager calmly, explaining that there are issues you think should have been picked up. They will either A: say whoops, sorry (what else are you after!) or B we don't want to know. If it's B, you lodge a complaint with NZTA.

Forget it nothing you can do about it. Alot of those items you listed are not warrant of fitness items. some of them are a matter of different opinions. Move on.
intrade,
Dec 22, 3:02pm
if a wof was fake as in wording fake then you could not register the car for another periode. thats when a wof is fake by means of the word fake.
snoopy221,
Dec 22, 3:21pm
The FIRST question has to be simply was the airbag light on when you obtained the vehicle! Yes! or NO!
twink19,
Dec 22, 3:23pm
WOF copy must be held on site for 12 months and for any audit inspection
chazz6,
Dec 22, 6:47pm
Well the airbag light was not on in the first maybe half hour! I remember with my BMW though with the airbag light sometimes it'll go on and off, but when I told the seller no reply. An thats what I thought, because the wof was 3 months old when i got it, I'd thought it'll be easy for me to obtain it.
