Not for manslaughter. Just for proven murder and rape.

Good old Waikato, drunks, terrible drivers, drunk driving etc.nothing ever changes. So sad for the Lady and family. Jail her for minimum 10 years instead of 2 years and 32 hours community service.justice needs to swift.

Sadly drunks and excessive drinking is a badge of honour in so many circles, who among us hasn't laughed at someone regailing some drunken performance of theirs. Until we look upon them with pity and shame, nothing wil change. Peer pressure is far more effective than legal.

hang on mate--just think this through. Yep you are right the suspended driver was responsible for their own actions -100% with you on that one. But if it was a borrowed car and loaned knowing the driver was suspended thenthe person who loaned the car is ALSO to be held accountable for THEIR actions loaning the car.
Im in two minds about the whole chicken/egg situation. Ie--- If thesuspended licence driver diddn't drive the accident wouldn't have happened VS did it DIRECTLY contribute to the crash!if not its a technical issue.

Maybe its time to get more Old Testament, rather than the current PC New Age outlook to crime and punishment.

You'll see that come in soon enough. Like France, England, the Netherlands, and others are starting to get - thanks to immigrants of a certain religious persuasion.

Where do you draw the line with that line of thinking Kazbanz!
How many cars have you sold to people that are capable of one and a halfto twice the legal open road speed limit! Have any of those people caused serious harm to themselves or any one else due to the cars capabilities! You probably don't know the answer but surely there would be at least one. Do you have blood on YOUR hands or have you got some sort of reasoning mapped out in your head that voids YOU of any responsibility!
There is nothing legally wrong with what you are doing but morally! Have a think about it.

I see your point but you used a bad example. I sell cars to drivers licenced to be on the road. I cannot predict their actions once behind the wheel. You are using this example to counter my example of a person KNOWINGLY loaning a car to a disqualified driver. Its a totally different situation. Also not being egotistical I have refused to sell a motorcycle to a person even though they had the cash to pay for it. In that situation I would have knowingly been selling a car to a person who fairly quickly would have ended up dead.-the bike was a superbike the rider had ridden scooters to get his L licence

You have used an example of an extreme case there and I think what you did was admirable. However, There is still a line of thinking there where as long as you have a license and the means to pay you will get the vehicle. Even though that vehicle grossly overpowered.
Saying you can't predict someones actions once behind the wheel is a cop out.

Where does this thinking come from! Dont sell chainsaws, kitchen knives, turbos, wide tyres, you could end up with blood on your hands. Where do you draw the line with your type of thinking .
marblicious,
Dec 26, 2:17pm
That was my point exactly. How can you hold anyone to account for what happened apart from the driver!

I can certainly see your point of view, in that often in these cases if someone did intervene it may have prevented a tragedy .however I stand by my sentiments .ultimately it is the person's decision to get into a car and drive knowing full well they were suspended .the buck surely stops with them ! Otherwise we could take this to the extreme and partition blame all over the place for any crime. personal responsibility has been eroded by liberal do gooders and a weak justice system backed by limp wristed judges.

I really can't see your line of thinking here. Im not involved in illegal vehicles or modified vehicles with over powerfull engines. Using your example everybody selling anything should be accountable for the actions of the person they sell the item to. A person holding a full NZ licence can buy any car. They have satisfied the licencing people that they are competant to drive. Thats the law. Ive argued with some passion that L plate and even restricted licence holders should be limited to cars of a certain CC limit (with discussion regarding turbos etc) and been told that I'm just wanting to line my own pockets.-ie the price would go up similar to the L aproved bike prices. With the broad availibility of 1500cc and below cars on the market this would never happen. Really the only eqivilant you have to myargument re loaning a car to a disqualified driver would be if I knowingly sold a car to a disqualified driver

Again mon I agree with you 100% -your sentiment is my sentiment. Thats the very reason I feel that a person knowingly loaning a car to a disqualified driver is to be held accountable for their actions. They need to accapt responsibility for THEIR actions. -Kinda funny is I'm dealing with this situation right now with my kids. One of the middle kids gave the youngest kid a water pistol. Told him and geed him up into squirting water at dad.-They diddn't know that the baby monitor was on and I heard every word. Youngest is in the cakk for being stupid enough to actually do it -- middle son in trouble for encourageing him and providing the means.

Simple: Get the offending driver and surgically remove their eyes. The whole thing will become self resolving and the offenders life in general will be a little more difficult.
