the Dog & Lemon Guide dude is on radio live and is going to take callers.

The problem is the media think he's marvellous.

I think he's wrong about recommending manual old cars. The clutches and gearboxes are more likely to be thrashed.

A caller just said that he had a Nissan Hiace van and the host didn't question that. Surely a Hiace is a Toyota!

manual old cars dontrun dmf flywheels so in this way they are better. neither does the dacia 2010 sandero . hohoho. but you can hear it the gearbox rattles thats what dmf prevent .

Maybe a Nissan Hiace comes under the Lemon section of the guide, or would it be the Dog section!

Pity that nobody else does. You have to admire how he has created such a false image of himself as some sort of consultant and industry expert when he is neither of those things. It only works because the media largely have zero knowledge of the motor industry.

As the media are generally left leaning and so is he, put two and two together.

If they are they're easier/cheaper to sort out than old auto. I like the guy but then I've always had a soft spot for a decent set of sideburns.

He missed his true calling he should have been a political scientist. He should be sitting around the table for the telly coverage on election night and applying his ratings to the pollies - avoid like the plague etc
The company also will launch a program for 16 million current owners to provide supplemental warranty coverage for certain vehicle components, and it will retrofit about 3.2 million vehicles with a brake override system. An override system is designed to ensure a car will stop when the brakes are applied, even if the accelerator pedal is depressed. .

Fark, what else are the brakes supposed to do! I prefer it that there is nothing in between my master cylinder and the calipers that can prevent the brakes from working in the event of a failure. ABS is fine because if it fails you can still stop or even if it locks on then you will still stop. Do these toyotas have electronics that prevent the brakes from being applied to wheels entirely!

Good on Toyota for retro fitting safety features. Some of those so called acceleratior problems were found to be false, people tying to do insurance claims. idiots.

It's all PR for toyota. did you read this part. "The company said plaintiffs' lawyers have been unable to prove that a design defect - namely its electronic throttle control system - was responsible for vehicles surging unexpectedly. Both the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and NASA were unable to find any defects in Toyota's source code that could cause problems. Ad Feedback Toyota has blamed driver error, faulty floor mats and stuck accelerator pedals for the unintended acceleration. "
As for the Prius braking issue. there was nil, just the owners needed to relearn how to brake as the system used huge amounts of regenitive braking system before it used the hydro/mechanical braking system. It was build like that so as the owner (if sensable) could own the the car for 200000kms and never have to change disc pads. but no one could get their heads round the concept so the brake system ECU was remaped to use the regen braking system along side actual braking.

They were FORCED to do the retrofitting. That's just PR spin from Toyota, and I don't believe them. And I won't buy a Toyota.

I've had a lot of cars in my 47 years of driving. I'm very proud to have never included a Toyota against my name. I loathe them.
Me too, nothing they have ever produced has ever inspired me either, probably because nothing they make has any sort of character and seem to be a default choice for research and maintenance shy people who buy them automatically because they allegedly never break down. Theres far more satisfaction and value for money to be had from other makes IMO.

I was believing the hype about Toyota reliability and thought about buying one. But after Toyota blamed drivers for crashing by using the wrong pedals or floormats I have changed my mind. Paying over a billion dollars to users is an admission that there were actual dangerous faults. Why would Toyota be replacing accelerator parts if they were not faulty! I have just checked Dog and Lemon 2007 and couldn't see any mention of accelerator problems.

I'm not a stalker, so I didn't bother checking to start with. Nice car.
