any idea if the diff head is the same as the lada car ! and did they have a slippery diff option !

aj254, Dec 28, 8:06pm
By slippery diff you mean limited slip diff! I don't think any lada's had them, none of my niva's did, always was a weak point for me. You might be able to track down a locker!

00quattro00, Dec 28, 8:25pm
What about a fiat diff!

biddy6, Dec 28, 8:31pm
Wern't many fiats ever got a ltd slip diff.

carclan, Dec 28, 8:41pm
To my knowledge they are different ratios

the-lada-dude, Dec 29, 4:48am
Ta,I'll check with the agent, they should know. some of you will remember the ol' TREKKA.based on a skoda ( I think ) I believe those vehicles had a lsdand would reputedly go almost any where ( rear eng )

chebry, Dec 29, 6:20am
Are you insane! the Trekka was based on the mechanicals from the 50s Octavia front engine RWD. I remember them well yes some had LSD but go anywhere Nar they were crap.

gammelvind, Dec 29, 6:28am
Had a flat mate in the 70's that had a Trekka he loved the POS!Gawd it was basic, and thats coming from me that had an Austin A60 lol

the-lada-dude, Dec 29, 6:46am
mmmmmmmm. must have been a different TREKKAones' I heard about could climb a greasy power pole, that's if you got to the pole b4 it rusted out!

chebry, Dec 29, 6:54am
A mate had one in the late 70s even then when any car would sell Trkkas were unsaleable anyhow this one was used on forest tracks and it was useless even with LSD mud stopped it wet grass stopped it my Humber 80 had more traction. Trekkas had only one thing going for them, during import quotas and restricted new car availability you could actually buy a Trekka and they were cheap, cheap n nasty like Ladas

dunwoody, Dec 29, 7:34am
Lada nivas have a high and low gear ratio and a transfer diff lock so that the front and back axles can be locked together, thats why they were so good for off road work. disadvantage is if there is an odd sized tyre the diff lock didn't want to let go when you tried to go into normal four wheel drive.

the-lada-dude, Dec 29, 11:14am
ladas' may have been cheap, but not nasty!people that drove humber 80 s 'were always nasty people, and they don't know s.from chewed dates

bigmacca, Dec 29, 1:19pm
ive heard of some fiat guys running a escort lsd .minor machining needed.however i dont know whether the lada diff is the same or similar to the fiat diff.

the-lada-dude, Dec 29, 2:09pm
Ta bigmacca, yeah i vaguely remember someone else mentioning that, trouble is probably as rear as rocking horse shit .

elect70, Dec 29, 2:14pm
Those dam trekkas, used topull them out of the riverorbog holebecause thestupid ownersbelieved the BS that they could go anywhere a 4wd could . Those nivas wernt too badcertainlyway better than trekkas

bigmacca, Dec 29, 2:14pm
yeh ive also heard they are rare.have you tried any of the 4x4 companys!they may do locking diffs for the ladas.guess it comes down to how far offroad you want to go and how much your willing to spend.if its offroad only maybe just weld it up.

aj254, Dec 29, 5:32pm
I actually don't know of any 4wd vehicle that didnt/doesn't have either a centre diff with a lock or no centre diff at all, just a engage/ disengage for the front axle. The reason they are good (but not great) offroad is that they are very light, about as light as a jimny.
the_lada_dude, another option is to rig up 2 handbrake levers for each rear wheel.

splinter67, Dec 29, 5:40pm
Your a noddy. I was the poor bugger taking the pos,s off the wharf we had to use a local tow truck firm for most of them because they didnt go the worst one shat it self on the ramp out of the boat it threw a leg out of bed nasty is not the word for them. Its great to see you know as much about ladas as you do about basic mechanics which would be nothing

dunwoody, Dec 30, 6:45am
Not sure what your question is about or why you would want a limited slip diff for on a Niva, but if you want the standard diff i have a spare one if you want it.

chebry, Dec 30, 6:50am
I still drive a Hillman and still dont take crap from retards like you. Ladas were the greatest heap of junk on the market, Oh by the way I have Russian family and their view on Ladas is the same, And ladaturd if you know so much why are you asking questions a child should know the answers to!

the-lada-dude, Dec 30, 7:51am
Hey !CHEBRY RIGHTand SPLINTER IN MY BRAIN - 67you two are being particularly nasty, you'll have JOHN456 to answer to shortlyLOL

the-lada-dude, Dec 30, 7:58am
thanks for the offer DUNWOODY,the lada is producing too much hp now, and I get wheel spin accelerating out of cnrs.I'm thinking I might change the rear end for a toyota, apparently even the small stuff have lsd s'and a good selection of ratios

splinter67, Dec 30, 8:13am
No not being nasty yet I can be if ya want just showing you that you dont know a lot about ladas in fact you earlier thread the one that states your mechanical aptitude was right you have none

the-lada-dude, Dec 30, 8:26am
HA HA lolin answer to( A )FU. sight more than you do,( B )I've forgotten more about automobiles than you'll ever knowlol

chebry, Dec 30, 8:39am
No dude not being nasty at all just pointing out you dont know much about your namesake and you have no knowledge/experience of Trekkas. Some of us were around when this junk was deposited on the market and are amused that someone would crow the wonders of said junk now.
