The plastic bit has a hole in it, but there's no structural damage. Can it fail a wof!

llortmt, Jan 6, 10:45am
Only if insecure or if it has sharp edges.

gemini_gurl, Jan 6, 10:54am
Thanks. I'll tape it up ;)

a.woodrow, Jan 6, 11:34am
Yes, as mentioned above

kazbanz, Jan 6, 11:38am
What he says.where is it cracked and what is the car!

gemini_gurl, Jan 6, 11:50am
It failed yesterday because of it.

It's a subaru legacy, got a hole in the back corner (hit a post)
I've found it really hard to find another skin, I did find one at a wrecker but they decided that the blitzen ones are super rare and wanted $1800 for it.

If anyone knows of a 2001 Blitzen Sedan being wrecked. ;)

a.woodrow, Jan 6, 11:58am
Can you post a picture of it, we may be able to offer suggestions for repair

noswalg, Jan 6, 12:05pm
VTNZ was it!

llortmt, Jan 6, 12:14pm
Your link just sends me to Gmail!

00quattro00, Jan 6, 12:19pm
That is repairable

llortmt, Jan 6, 12:31pm
Lots of Duck to and retest!
Then look for a reasonably priced secondhand bumper.
Insurance!

carclan, Jan 6, 12:41pm
If it was VTNZ I can understand. They failed my 05 Fairmont because there was a small screw head stuck between the tread in the front tyre. I think they are on a crusade to fail as many cars as possible to reinforce their position on the pendind warrent of fitness changes

We used to use a company called enviroplas, if i remember right they were down towards south auckland, very good at fixing plastics, lenses etc, was a few years back, but might be worth a squiz.

mrfxit, Jan 6, 1:13pm
Yep as is = fail

Cut a thin sheet of plastic from something like a 3ltr milk bottle, cut to shape , give the area a good clean with meths & DUCK TAPE it on.
That will be fine & safe for a while.

llortmt, Jan 6, 1:13pm
That was meant to be Duck Tape lol

gemini_gurl, Jan 6, 2:00pm
Thanks for the tips. Insurance - pay through the nose for years then too scared to claim cos it's not worth losing the no claims bonus! That is probably a thread worthy subject alone

mugenb20b, Jan 6, 2:01pm
Duck tape or duct tape!

clark20, Jan 6, 2:11pm
Its called both, it was made to keep ammunition cases sealed during the war, and the duck reference was "as tight as a ducks ***, however later used on air ducting as called duct tape

theram1, Jan 6, 2:23pm
Ducks Ar#s is also a hair cut, the DA.

franc123, Jan 6, 3:36pm
That should have bee passed.

mrfxit, Jan 6, 3:45pm
Even at a 5k nudge bump, that jagged hole would do a fair bit of damage to someones leg or knee, instead of a sliding bump with a complete corner

kazbanz, Jan 6, 3:51pm
aww comeon franc--I'da failed it as it stands.
Gemini gurl- -a "little crack" hu! -understatement much!

I definitely feel that that bumper is fixable. If it was me I'd just throw a non blitzen bumper on it and be done with it.

franc123, Jan 6, 4:00pm
You can do a fair bit of damage to yourself if you ran into the back of a flatdeck ute and caught yourself on the tray edge, tail or sideboard catch, taillight frame, towbar etc. If either of you can explain why a hole in a non forward facing bumper that hasn't got any outward facing projections, ie could not be clipped by a pedestrian if they were hit by a vehicle travelling forwards, that does not expose any sharp metal objects beneath it should be failed I'd like to hear it.

gemini_gurl, Jan 6, 4:02pm
Never said a little crack ;)

He who owns the car (and loves the car possibly as much as his 3 children) wants something exactly the same otherwise it would have had a standard one put on already *eyeroll*

If you guys think it's replaceable then I guess I should visit the panelbeater!

In the meantime I'll tape it up so I can get the warrant

kazbanz, Jan 6, 4:13pm
When's the WOF due! -if its in a week or so's time why not haul the bumper off and get the hole plastic welded!
Where is the "missing" bit of plastic!
