Backing in would have the disadvantage of not knowing where in the house or on the section kids could/would be and they would be more likely to be excited at your arrival and therefore more likely to unpredictably appear IMO

and what happens then when you get down the long driveway to find that all available turning space is already occupied by parked cars. not an ideal world is it

Thomas -Your sentiment is utterly fantastic. Your thinking on the subject is flawwed. perhaps your driveway is one where what you propose works well. But I can think of a huge number where it would be just stupid and dangerous to do so.
I'd suggest a better idea would be a (self imposed) speed limit in driveways of 5km/h and promoting walking around the back of the car before getting in.
trouble is a bit like the "anti smacking" laws -legislation won't change how the real offenders act

Too true.unfortunately.

thomas75I agree with you 100 % the thinking of some of the others is somewhat flawed and it will never catch
it does give you the opportunity to see if driveway is clear,
nz tool ! why would you stop in middle of road and back in! pull to the left and back when safe to do so has been my practice
Also not advisable to back into on coming traffic
the main difference is you have been driving and so are more alert

fryan---and if your route means you have to reverse from the other side of a busy road. or if reversing into the driveway/lane etc is going to be blind due to obstructions or even if reversing in is going to be at a really busy time of day traffic wise.Or if the driveway/vehicle combination is really difficult for reversing in !
A whole bunch of reasons NOT to back into your driveway.
Again the current promotion is for once on the nose. TAKE MORE CARE in the driveway,
looks for kids. etc.
