Hope you get the car thoroughly checked out with a pre purchase inspection.

OK i have to be totally fair to "them" whoever they happen to be.
if its a "normal" dealership it sounds like a new staff member has the wrong end of the stick or perhaps what was said was misunderstood due to english being a second language etc.
However if the "dealership" is in fact Turners "auctions" then yup there are indeed auction fees and documentation fees and all sorts they charge you for.I have had feedback from a customer -a potential customer for them that in fact they tried to charge fees on a car they were retail selling-

None of them said that either so you must have inside info on that one, they both rubbish the idea of hire purchase on a second hand car, that would kill one hellova large industry including yours methinks. I get annoyed because every time a post comes up like this up come the "silver spooners" and we get the same derogatory comments aimed at people that cannot for a reason pay cash for a nice car, in reality, its their money/income and can be distributed how they see fit. they are the good-guys, its the high interest finance companies that are the bad-boys but thats another subject.

Firemansgirl - I would ask them why they are charging for a service that they are obliged to provide free any way, ie, guarantee of clear title. It is a requirement on them as an RMVT.If they then say that the charge is for the paperwork and change of ownership only (which it has to be then) I would ask them why the "paperwork" costs $141.00, and suggest that they may wish to remove the charge for "guarantee of clear title" from their ads, as this is a given on a dealer's obligations. If you are not financing the car through them, it is a cash sale, full stop. It is none of their business as to where you obtained the money from. Accordingly, they should only be charging you the $9.00 only.If they won't agree to that, I'd look for an alternative car elsewhere. If they are actually keen to sell, that $141 should evaporate fairly quickly.

You living beyond your means and financing depreciating assets doesn't mean anyone who doesn't was born with a silver spoon in their mouth. It just means they're smarter than you. My spoon was wooden, for both ends.

Most of us have never seen a silver spoonand have worked hard and saved, when I got too old to chase bitches and mares.

bjdw, Jan 31, 11:59am
Because the car dealers get paid by the finance companies for signing you up, if you bring your own money or alternative finance they want to charge you an extra fee to make up for the fee they are not getting from the finance company.

Living beyond your means.Oh I say, the unwashed have a late model car, must have stolen it !Stop being a pretentious snob man, most people on here are smarter than me but I still use finance when needed without living beyond my means.

noswalg, Jan 31, 9:34pm
At the end of the day they are entitled to charge you whatever fees they want (apart from clear title check) Whether or not you are stupid enough to pay those fees sits squarely on your shoulders!
