ok .to put it another way . your indicated speed doesnt mean shit if your pulled over for speeding

sr2, Mar 25, 11:18am
100% correct; there is no fast lane in NZ but we're allowed to overtake on the left in marked lanes.

meathead_timaru, Mar 25, 11:22am
Partly correct. You may only travel in the right lane if the other lanes are unavailable or if you're passing. It's an offence to drive in it under most other circumstances, even though it's rarely enforced.

Go slower .if there up my jacksee and im doing the legal speed limit
f.k em lol

sr2, Mar 25, 11:44am
thanks for the link; yes it is a law that is rarely enforced. It would be quite impractical to do so on Auckland's motorways, the on/off ramps are so close together that staying in the right lane is usually the easiest option.

kevymtnz, Mar 25, 11:55am
many are wrong if you are doing the speed limit in the right lane and maybe passing cars on the left very slow and someone is behind you trying to push you along you are in your rights to stay in the right lane untill they decide to move left when there is a safe enough gap to move over, if someone on the left lane matches your speed then the tailgator has to get over it,

tgray, Mar 25, 11:57am
You should be asking yourself why you are breaking the law in the first place.
Now, if you were travelling at 100kph and someone is behind you, the answer is, yes you should pull over.

tgray, Mar 25, 12:00pm
Sorry to break it to you, but YOU are breaking the law.
A tolerance is just that and it is unlawful to exceed the posted speed limit.

saffa2, Mar 25, 12:06pm
My road, my rules.

bellky, Mar 25, 2:57pm
I figure from those speed check things that my cars (and most others) are reading about 7.5% high, so my actual speed is about 103kph, and therefore within the 4kph tolerance threshold :)

nightboss, Mar 25, 3:20pm
"And with that I rest my case your honour."
Yeah right.

oliver6, Mar 25, 4:04pm
If you are not overtaking you should not be travelling in the outside lane.

juddy1, Mar 30, 5:44am
did i state what lane i was in .

rpvr, Mar 30, 6:32am
Except on certain parts of the Auckland motorway system, where there are exits from the right, i.e. heading for the port area down the north-western motorway, where you must be in one of the two right hand lanes. If you were in the left lane you would have to cross three lanes of traffic to exit. Also, if you drive out of the city up the north-western and stay in the left lane, you will suddenly find you are in an "exit only" lane and if traffic is heavy, you can't get out of it.

lookoutas, Mar 30, 6:55am
Then you should start another thread.

What's the guts here anyway!
Your speed is irrelevant to what someone else is doing. If they come up behind you - get out of the friggin way! (Suppose that should mean - My way)
It's a known fact that holding traffic up causes problems.
Sure - it's impatient people like me (and worse) who might light the fuse, but the cause is usually that "nana road hog"

I'm not that impatient these days (sort've) especially with the passenger seat cruise control activated. But I have sat in a queue and watched the mayhem of people overtaking on a number of occasions, and it's quite frightening. All caused by someone oblivious of what's behind. Or ignorant.

socram, Mar 30, 7:21am
Correct. But it is no excuse for hogging the right hand lane at 70kph for the 10kms before you need to exit.

brapbrappy, Mar 30, 8:09am
If you didnt know the rule about keeping to the left maybe you should give up driving and make the roads safer for all of us.

Just been in the UK. Returning to the airport (Newcastle) from Liverpool, I was quite happy in the first driving lane (so called 'slow' lane) at 130 kph and allowing all those that wanted to pass me (up to 160 kph) to go. Loads of police around, but because none of the driving was deemed dangerous or reckless, no one got stopped. There was about 2 metres of snow on either side of the motorway, as well. Most people over there keep left and if you are going slowly, say 130 kph, then it's best to keep left and allow the faster drivers to pass. Also, as mentioned, there is no 'fast' lane - just stand in the first lane of the motorway and tell me if the truck that hits you is going slow!

murray55, Mar 30, 1:37pm
Agree .one of the most arrogant and ignorant of behaviors on NZ roads .and more often than not they sit alongside the inside lane driver just to further frustrate the line of drivers building up behind !

footplate1, Mar 30, 1:48pm
+anr 1

twink19, Mar 30, 2:36pm
had one on Thursday, 90 in the fast lane long line of cars behind, thought it was her right to be in that lane

funkydunky, Mar 30, 3:07pm
you mean she was wrong to be right!

texastwo, Mar 30, 3:48pm
Its also totally dumb - not looking in the rear vision mirror

loose.unit8, Mar 30, 3:58pm
I don't see why people get upset. Is it such hard work to change lanes and go around them that way!

kezza46, Mar 30, 4:27pm
just find the car traveling the fastest and stay behind it,if it's speeding, then there's your radar detector:)
