got a shock when the listing fee for a 35k ute on trade me $99 ! forget it trade me , your becoming to dear

tony9, Oct 16, 6:44pm
So where are you listing now, and what does it cost?

davidmoore, Oct 16, 6:45pm
i will just trade it in on principle they keep cranking the price cos we keep paying

tony9, Oct 16, 6:54pm
I am sure the dealer you trade it with will be happy to take the $5,000 uplift they will put on it, but you will save $99.

tgray, Oct 16, 6:55pm
So you get $34,901 instead of $35,000?
Sounds like a great deal to me.

davidmoore, Oct 16, 6:56pm
unlike you pal i have principals and dont like been screwed over $99 for a listing , come on ! i will negotiate a deal we will both be happy with a dealer

mrcat1, Oct 16, 7:00pm
A saying springs to mind here, sounds like your cutting off your nose to spite your face.
So the dealer offers you $27k and you think its a fair deal because you wont spend $99 on a listing to potentially get $34,900?

davidmoore, Oct 16, 7:02pm
may be so just fail to see how and why the listing rates have gone up so much so quickly,, wish my income did the same

gtrb26, Oct 16, 7:06pm
If all my competition tried and failed, I would jack my prices up. I guess until some one else comes along we will have to suck it up.

quickbuck, Oct 16, 7:08pm
Or you could put it in the Trade and Exchange for much less. Oh, wait.

franc123, Oct 16, 7:11pm
Price a two line ad with no photo in your local newspaper for one night , if the paper actually still exists, and tell us how cost effective you reckon it is in comparison to national, well actually global photographic exposure, on TM.

davidmoore, Oct 16, 7:13pm
weve all become such an apathetic lot ,, no wonder the average kiwi gets screwed over so much

gregmran, Oct 16, 7:22pm
and yet you have a car listed on Trademe.

quickbuck, Oct 16, 7:30pm
No, we are actually very understanding of what it takes to make a profit in this world. I would hate to think that my Kiwisaver Provider has put a large portion of my funds into shares in a company that was once a gold mine, but then decided to listen to it's customers who know how to run their business much better. Then that company stopped turning a profit. Fast forward a few years and I go to retire and then discover that all the funds that I had been putting away amounts to next to freak all. all because the little people thought they knew better.

Obviously, i am going to keep a better eye on how my funds are doing than that and ensure that they are growing at an appropriate rate. Just like this site does really.

As we are alluding to, how much do you reckon a car sales yard spends on advertising per car?

gunhand, Oct 16, 7:35pm
Aww come on, ive seen plenty of whingin over the years when prices go up from others on here. Yea sure TM does have the best exposure in NZ for sure but do they really need to up prices all the time, well at times. They know they have a monopoly and will use it.
I have noticed alot more cars back on the roadside for sale of late again. That dried up for a very long time when TM came along but seems to be popular again, wonder why.
I suppose you are all happy with your power bills going up along with every bloody thing else as well? But what do we do, moan, and thats about it.
We have no idea how to mass protest in this country, and won't cause greed gets in the way for many.

kazbanz, Oct 17, 6:15am
I happen to totally agree with you in principle. My Trade Me advertising costs just increased by $1200 a year with absolutely no increase in sales as a result.
BUT to refuse to spend $100 in advertising when even if its a small dealer you will get $1000 less for your car as a trade in makes no sense to me.
I applaud your principles but in your shoes would rather have an extra $900 in my pocket.

rovercitroen, Oct 17, 6:25am
Trade Me listing is a bargain compared to newspaper ads. What would you pay for an ad in your newspaper with 20 colour pics and as much wording as TM lets you have for $99? Hundreds of dollars for ONE day of advertising in your local area. TM gives you country wide advert which you can renew as many times as you need to for no extra or minimal extra cost.

fordcrzy, Oct 18, 8:21am
remember when everyone stopped using autotrader because they wanted huge amounts to list a car? looks like history is repeating itself.

tgray, Oct 18, 3:13pm
With 73.900 people disagree with you.

tgray, Oct 18, 4:00pm
Sorry, had a customer and had to run.
I meant to say, with 73,900 cars for sale on Trademe, a lot of people disagree it is too expensive to list on here.

socram, Oct 18, 4:37pm
At $99 with loads of pics and countrywide exposure, very little else can come anywhere near it.

Basic Marketing: Sell the product for as high a price as you possibly can. When people stop buying or drift to the opposition, then, and only then do you drop the prices or improve the spec.

Can you remember how much it was for a Pizza Hutt pizza a few years back? Or a twin floppy disc Amstrad PC?

andrewcg53, Oct 18, 4:41pm
So you prefer to lose up to 10k than spend $99

headcat, Oct 18, 5:30pm
That must be why I pay $80 for an hour of someone's time who is arguably less qualified than myself who gets $30.

darryl, Oct 18, 5:33pm
How on earth are you being screwed over? They have a service and it costs a certain amount. You then have the choice to use it or not. There is no coercion going on . you're completely free to decide not to use their service.

Rather an over dramatic, excessive phrase to use really.

socram, Oct 18, 8:41pm
. or why you buy Chinese manufactured stuff where they pay a bowl of rice a day for labour, instead of buying local where they have to pay $14 an hour.

We all know that the local agents pay mechanics $25 an hour but charge $100 because as anyone who is on anything other than a wage or salary knows, there are overheads to be paid.

Welcome to the modern global world where everyone wants a high wage - but expects everything they buy to be cheap, be that manufactured goods or services.
