can I wait 28 days and take it somewhere else to get wof ? it will take me more than 28 day to fix things that have failed

franc123, Feb 12, 6:36pm
Yes you can. If by chance you can fix before the time is up there is no point waiting, you may as well take it back for the free recheck.

grangies, Feb 12, 6:38pm
What failed?.

kazbanz, Feb 12, 6:38pm
As long as the vehicle isn't being driven you can take as long as you like to fix the issues.

caspa19, Feb 12, 6:48pm
suspension bouncy to comply
smoke [ exsuast] to comply .we cant see any smoke
rear breaks imbalance 45% > 20%

What is the actual question? Is it:
I want to take my vehicle to another place to see if it will pass,
or is it:
I need more than 28 days to repair my vehicle up to WOF standard, do I have to have it done within the 28 days.

kazbanz, Feb 12, 6:55pm
so adjust the BRAKES and get a pair of shock dampers

caspa19, Feb 12, 6:59pm
will take more than 28 days to get things fixed.

caspa19, Feb 12, 7:02pm
anyone know a place in chch that are cheap to fix these ?

poppajn, Feb 12, 7:04pm
Another garage may find other issues, is,nt after 28 day's a full recheck anyway?

kazbanz, Feb 12, 7:09pm
rubbish--it will take closer to 28 minutes.

darryl, Feb 12, 7:25pm
Might take more than 28 days to have the cash to do the repair, not actually repair it.

henderson_guy, Feb 12, 7:33pm
All the 28 days means that you have 28 days to re-present the vehicle for a free recheck once the issues have been rectified. So as said above, you can take as long as you need to get the repairs done, just after the 28 days you need to pay for another inspection.

m16d, Feb 12, 7:55pm
Exactly. crikey 28 days is a month. you could drive around the world in that time.

socram, Feb 13, 5:49am
Exactly. OP hasn't given a reason so no point in speculating.

Took 8 months to get a mildly modified parcel shelf signed off by the LVVTA certifier when my car failed compliance last February as it had been overlooked on the paperwork, even though I had the plate. Nothing had to be changed on the car to get it passed so work that one out.

Is it diesel? I ask cause of smoky exhaust. If it is petrol that is a worry and if car is tuned recently yet smokes it's on way to laa laa land.
If it is deisel and smokes on acceleration again that's a worry though can be in need of good tune more. If tuning doesn't help its deceased.
I for one applaud them stoping smoky diesels, following one up a hill is unpleasant and its belching out into our air.

Don't know what area of ChCh you are in, but give Dean, at Locost Automotive
82 Beresford Street
New Brighton
Ph 3886394
a call, he is very reasonable, and does a great job

caspa19, Feb 16, 4:04pm
It will take more than 28 day to save some money to get it fixed.no it not diesel. im in aranui so I will go and see dean thanks

thewomble1, Feb 17, 2:58pm
It will cost you another WOF fee if you take to a different mechanic.

intrade, Feb 17, 3:17pm
you realise you are not allowed to drive the vehicle anywhere then point of repair and wof place , the 28 days are not legally alowing to drive where ever you wish . Secound opinion from other wof test is another fee.
You can also just take it back and have it rechecked free at the original place. if you take it back often enough they will show you why it fails or it will pass if nothing ever was wrong.

kazbanz, Feb 17, 4:03pm
So don't worry about it. park the car up on blocks -take the wheels off and sort out the brakes whilst saving up.Its most likely and adjustment or cleaning needed.Up on blocks will make ripping the front shocks out easy ready to fit when you have them.
Odviously you wont be driving the vehicle

stickman4u, Feb 17, 4:55pm
what is it ? I can fix you get the parts

ozz1, Feb 17, 5:01pm

monsieurl, Feb 17, 5:42pm
Agree! As per usual, more high horse riding self righteous posters ready to look down and bleat on about everything apart from actually helping the dude. Props to those who actually brought something positive to this post!
