What Bike Do You Most Regret Selling?

I would love to still have one of my Nortons. Now that I am retired, the limited amount of available power would be just fine. I sold my last Norton to buy a GSX 1100 when they had just come out.
Amazing just how fast thirty years or so have gone!

My Raleigh 20. They are now a collectors item.

one I regret not buying was a new Harley XLCR, the guy at Auckland motorcycles was desperate to get rid of it as the Harley boys didn't want it because it was a factory cafe racer & the Jappa boys didn't want it because it was a Harley. He got to the stage where he'd take my GF250 learner bike & 2k on top. Many years later I went to Universal to see if I could find one, the guy said 'there's a minter in Invercargill that we're trying to buy & he's just refused 45k' (although they can be found for less than half that)

To be honest most of my bikes Ive regretted selling.
But probably the one I regretted the very most was my Yamaha YZF750sp. being a genuine sp it had a bunch of factory fruit in/on it.
Comfortable bike that could cut it with the fast boys.

I regretted selling my TL1000R. It was just such a jubbly engine. Surprisingly comfy on long trips, Great fun away from the lights, it was the Suzuki I bought when I'd always said I'd never buy another Suzuki. After months of getting nagged by the wife to get another bike I went out and bought another TL1000R just recently!

I had a couple of Raleigh 20's, the plastic blocks on the pedals would go missing and the steel spine that was left would carve a chunk out of your calf if your foot slipped off :o(
Used to hoon around on my chopper- had the banana seat, smaller front wheel and a flag on a pole at the back. Maybe not so cool now as it was then.

my '57bsa bantam-I should have shot it,not inflicted the no good pommy piece of shit on its new owner.Thank god for jappas-good riddance English "engineering".No wonder they all went broke.

Think you regret selling character. Bland characterless bikes come and go, but the ones I miss most of dozens are the first pro-link XR500 and the V-Max.

Had two sets of wheels for the XR500 (years before the Super Motard fashion), it would keep lots of bigger capacity road bikes honest in the twisties.

The V-Max had vices, like handling differently left and right, violent unpredictably head shake, marginal brakes, but what a fabulous motor, just power to burn and easy to ride. No great skill to launch, anybody could turn in a 11.5 quarter, unlike a hot 600, which I find hard to get off the line decently.

Its ok to say Harley you know

stevo2, Nov 8, 12:23pm
Honda XL250S back in the 80's. Mrs Stevo and I had so many good times with that bike from cruising the forgotten highway to Whangamomona to cruising the beaches to hitting the hills on a mates farm.

shortee2, Nov 8, 12:25pm
I had one like that too

dingo011, Nov 8, 1:19pm
Yamaha TT500 no decompression lever so it could throw you across the road if it kicked back when starting. Loved that bike but time and jumps etc eventually took there toll.

My 58 T100 I sold in 1974. The first "big" roadbike I ever owned.

tigertim20, Nov 8, 1:21pm
TZR 250. shouldnt have sold it.
K4 gsxr 1000 was so damn good as an all rounder that I miss that sometimes too.

2001 R1 is the biggest regret. felt like i was going to throw up when i watched it leave

sifty, Nov 8, 1:26pm
Hahaha.

sifty, Nov 8, 1:28pm
And you can sell bikes. ?

I tend to just buy them and squirrel them away in the shed.

tamarillo, Nov 8, 1:28pm
BMW r65 with full Avon fairing. Not glamorous but took us all over North Africa and Europe and never missed a beat.
Bought it home but sold it later,mt ride to buy it back and hunted it down but it's fairing and paniers etc had been removed and it was painted black. I was mortified!

sifty, Nov 8, 1:32pm
In saying that, I did sell a really nice XJ750 and it's replacement, an 85 GSXR750 when I went to uni. I see them popping up in classic bike mags now.

richynuts, Nov 8, 1:53pm
I have one. just wish yamaha never painted them pink and white.

tgray, Nov 8, 2:38pm
1978 Suzuki GS1000 with the light blue tank and black side covers.
I believe one of the first registered here.

kazbanz, Nov 8, 3:26pm
Yea- I dunno what they were thinking.theres one for sale on "here" now but previous owner decided to "upgrade" with a different tail and fairing. looks terrible.

slarty45, Nov 8, 3:32pm
1975 CZ250MX it was too mint to sell for sod all

bigmacca, Nov 8, 3:49pm
stupidly sold my 97 KTM 360 EXC. Total animal but so fun. Maybe one day I will get lucky and buy it back.

richynuts, Nov 8, 3:54pm
Yeah see that. I do have an original top fairing/headlight and a 2 seater tailsection in my spares
