Hmmm, I dont think g forces distingush how the acceleration is achieved. Generally, a large sports bike will out accelerate a Harley anyday. Power might be delivered in a different manner, but acceleration is acceleration is acceleration. Seating position might make you feel like you arms are being pulled from sockets, but at the end of the day, a Harley is a cruiser.

I would argue that the Kawasaki ZZR 1200 is a much better tourer than the VFR! But that is just my opinion.

Maybe this old adage will make the "Pennie Drop" The Bigger the block the Bigger the Shock ! A wrx is about the same time to 100 km/hr as a 6.3 HSV but the HSV will pin you back in your seat more. Same applies to bikes the laws of physics does not change. At its raw sense its about how big the explosion is in the bore. Bigger bore bigger explosion. Check out this site and select Top Torque bikes - no 1000's for ages but a hog makes the first page - sure 1000's fly and you have to hold on but more revs are required. Low down torque requires big cubes. Harley's sure are a cruiser but they have great low down torque.
My xr650r would probably beat my brother-inlaws hog to 100 km/hr but he would have to be holding onto the bars more, ridden both bikes - know the difference in feel.
Matamata straight I'd be watching carefully -I genuinely envy you dude. The SS was/is definitely on my wish list. I was gonna ask Rob man to do a classic gixxer slabbie red/black/white paint scheme or see if I could get the paint job of the bike it was styled after

Sound like the voice of experience! A five or six hour ride is great to plan over a couple or three ales, but in reality and the light of day, a literal pain in the arse. I need and hourly stop and walk around in circles to get all the circulation back. Last 3 bikes, were VTR 1000, Vmax & DR 400 Super Motard. All different, but equally horrible for 3 hour plus rides, and don't even talk about rain.
Seriously though, I hope you enjoy it and please ride safe.

jeez guys, its not as if I haven't already acknowledged that it won't be easy & its not as if there aren't any motels along the way (possibly with a spa pool) just in case

When you head north from Taupo, turn left at the mill about 30kms out, and ride the Old Taupo Road. It is a fantastic ride, no traffic, away from the main road, and will take your mind off your sore bum. At the end of it you can virtually cross the main road and head to Matamata and home that way rather than up the main drag through Cambridge. I could meet you at Taupo and show you the way ?

as in the post above, and you have already acknowledged, experience does count, 5 hrs is going to be very uncomfortable as the first ride in several years, yes you will find muscles you didn't know you had, and they will ache, you'll find ends of bones that really shouldn't be found in such a manner and they will protest the awareness in ever increasing intensity, you legs will be quite willing to simply detach from the rest of the system, and you will think they have when you step off 5 hrs is too long for first ride, if you feel you must ride it over the first hill on the way home then sure do so, but have the coon and a trailer tagging you
whatever you decide, pay attention to the fact that 5 hr ride will actually be more like 8hr ride, it will hurt like you have never felt hurt before hopefully you will have a support in place that will allow the experience to be a good one - be safe and when it starts to hurt, stop, pain and proper attention to the road don't go together

Yup, I rode for a few years when I first started & thought I was pretty good buzzing around, work & back & the occasion sprint to Whangarei to see family but it's not until I did my first long open road trip I realised how much more to it there was. My favourite was a mad 2000kms in 3 days between Christmas & New Years just criss-crossing the North Island, couldn't find a place to settle in so ended up coming home just in time to party with my mates, as I rode over the Bombays the tripmeter clicked over 2000

settle mate, you are getting the special treatment because we consider you a valuable poster and a damn good guy, and have difficulty expressing such in a manly way

lol, much like how you know why you're getting the attention = and don't know how to respond to it in a manly manner
but hey, we are envious, damn I wish these old bones would let me ride again - one day roger, one day, and we care about good guys

Actually ya know best you leave the long distance ride to someone who loves it --er PICK ME PICK ME. My argueably most insane ride was flying to Dunners in the evening to look at a bike. Stay the night then Getting up well before sparrows fart and riding directly back up to Auckland.I did sleep on the ferry I think.

Forgot to say, take a few V's or small (125ml) energy drinks so you can keep alert & semi hydrated without stopping for a pee every 10 mins. (I find big cans take too long to down comfortably on a road trip)
I'm sure you will know all this but I'm just putting it out there as it's the small things forgotten that can make or break an otherwise fun trip.

I don't get it , what the fark is wrong with plain old adrenaline . Ya get sore ya either pull finger and get there quicker or ya stop for a beer along the way .
