Nothing like a pair of Dad jeans to complete the corvette driver look.

tgray, Aug 18, 5:59pm
Well I am a Dad - not trying to prove otherwise.

Surely, there is enough torque to use the higher gears now and again without the engine labouring? Our six speed auto frustrates me as it won't change into 6th unless we are doing about 100kph, yet the 6 speed manual Cooper S is quite happy trundling in 6th.

tgray, Aug 19, 11:13am
In 7th gear at 130kph, it's on 1600rpm.
It just feels right using up to 4th gear, but will occasionally put it into 5th for motorway use if the trip is long enough - Never 6th or 7th. There's just no point.

My supercharged F150 drinks 14 to 15 per 100 if I drive like Nana. This thing will pass anything on the road except a gas station,But what the hell you only live once. Her indoors wants me in a Skoda!

nzdoug, Aug 19, 2:08pm
VWCC V6 3.6L.4WD

Just hired a Skoda Octavia (diesel) in the UK and was mightily impressed - particularly with the economy and the size of the boot.

I overtook a matte black '70s Transam going up the Wainuiomata hill in our office Rav4 once, about 8 years ago, in the rain.

He obviously had a chip on his shoulder about being slower than a paltry Japper, so he must have stood on the gas. because he got very out of shape. fortunately we were both going UP the hill, so he came to a stop pretty quickly.

You should drive to Papakura, you could be the best dressed man in town with that smokin look.

Sounds about right, ie thats exactly what my 97 disco is guzzling. Vastly improved from what it drank prior, ( $1 = 1km), to replacing rotor, cap, leads, vac advance, coil, idle air valve and air flow meter. Goes real strong now, hard to resist booting it. Funny thing though, i read online that rovers ran most economically on good fuel.
So as i usually put $50 of 95 in, and fuel light appears at 95-99 kms(never quite got to 100), i decided to try 91, again with $50 worth, and got only 92 and 95kms.
So last fill i used 98, again $50 worth, and light didnt come on until 115kms! will be interesting to see if i get the same again second try.
Ps fuel prices were fairly stable give or take a cent or two.

Could just see you in a Rav4

sifty, Aug 21, 10:05am
And a mullet, and black t shirt with fluoro writing on it.

rambler_man, Aug 23, 2:29pm
It all comes down to " SMILES PER MILE " to hell with the costs

tamarillo, Aug 23, 2:36pm
Skodas are cool! In NZ they're are rare on road as not a jap import, I see far less Skodas than VW, BMW, Audi etc. used two in UK and mighty impressed. Vrs wagon would suit.

sanders4, Aug 23, 9:41pm
Booked at 132kms once and have cruised at 180kms in Nissan maxima but fuel economy is 11 lts per 100ks so maybe jappas are smarter than some?

3tomany, Aug 24, 9:37am
you could argue the stingray is like a $10 watch. 300k worth of performance for about 100k so lots of bang for bucks

lookoutas, Aug 24, 3:09pm
For some of us old bugga's - the top rule of thumb will always be 30 MPG.
That equates to 10.62018 KPL. Or 10 lts per 106.2018 K (rounded to 100 K)

In tg's case, 21.7 per 100 K is the same as 13.01756 MPG

tgray, Aug 24, 3:37pm
And that is driving very modestly 90% of the time, but I do have my moments (as you do).
My insurance does not allow more than 5,000k p/year, so I couldn't give a toss about fuel economy.

johotech, Aug 24, 3:43pm
I can't believe nobody's asked what colour it is?

lookoutas, Aug 24, 3:49pm
And they don't allow for the kilometres standing still either.

3tomany, Sep 6, 3:29am
thats because all the clever posters have already seen it
