Youi

As an aside to this Insurance debate, be advised to read the small print on the back of your car insurance policy. If you have a Speeding offence within the last year or three you have to declare it to the Insurance Co. Failure to do so is likely to render any claims null and void, as one of my Sons found out with AMI. and they do check back to squirm out of their obligations.

If you read your contents policy with Youi you'll probably find that you're not covered for accidental damage. So you're not comparing like for like. Your Vero policy would have been comprehensive. I also wonder, but haven't checked, if the household buildings policy you received was market value or replacement? Your Vero policy was almost certainly replacement and a reasonable quality policy. Youi seems to cut corners (like leaving accidental damage out of its contents policy! ), which is what makes it cheaper. If it was offering the same cover it wouldn't be cheaper.

Sorry to disappoint you bud, but the policy is comprehensive, full replacement with added allowance ($50K) for site clearance and removal/disposal in regards to house/building, and I discussed and nominated values on Jewellery, Paintings etc., So almost like for like with Vero and they come with a B+++ rating. The thing is that, the vast majority of us will never make a claim anyway.

Poppy62, if you go to the product disclosure statement you will see that accidental damage isn't automaticaly included. Ditto for Jewellery at Home, Jewellery Away from Hoe, mobile phones and more: https://www.youi.co.nz/attachmentHandler.axd?f=vze%2f1g3OI%2bnjvDMgmvn3PKIqpuT1jAh047HWexFnTdohJCCTkDYzANxIShvCmyJcLutbQhRs1TeF7BHc6wIHlEn9V3Rh%2bi8LPTVQ3309Qvg%3d When it comes to buildings cover, you are covered by Youi for specific events such as Theft, Fire, Earthquake, Explosion, Riot, Storm, Flood, Escaping Water. With most other insurers in New Zealand you are covered for (and this is the example from AMI's policy "You are covered for any sudden and accidental physical loss of or damage to your house that occurs during the period of cover". http://www.ami.co.nz/Documents/PolicyDocuments2014/House%20Premier%20Policy.pdf The cover you have bought with YOUI is of a much lower standard than that you would get through AMI, State, NZI, Lumley, TOWER Vero, your bank etc etc etc. That's why it's "cheaper". You're not comparing like for like. The YOUI policy is more like the cheap cut down policies sold by other NZ insurers. At AMI for example, there are two policies, the Premier House (which is the level of cover any sane New Zealander would buy) and the Market Value House Cover. This latter cover is a cut down version and only covers the specific risks as YOUI does. The fact that you thought you'd got a bargain is the fault of the sales people at YOUI who don't want you to know that it's substandard cover. There are going to be some very sad stories when it comes to claims.

For the record as well, YOUI has an AM Best B++ and an issuer credit rating of "bbb".
This is not like school where a B is something to aspire to. B++ is not a rating that I would consider adequate enough to put my insurance with. All of the leading insurance companies in NZ have much higher ratings than YOUI. EG: AA Insurance A+, AIA AA-, AIG A, Allianz AA-, IAG (AMI, Lumley, NZI, State) AA- , QBE A+, Southern Cross A+, TOWER A-, Westpac AA-, Zurich A+. Etc. What this says to me is that YOUI has a lower credit rating and is more likely to go to the wall than those other companies. I'm trusting my entire house on my insurer. You can bet I won't be going with YOUI any time soon. Two insurance companies collapsed thanks to Christchurch. Financial stability is incredibly important when it comes to insurance companies. http://www.rbnz.govt.nz/regulation_and_supervision/insurers/rating/

yes - like many others here found -this outfit ISNT competitiive . I was after a vehcicle quote and it didnt even have free windscreen cover like my current policy does - and - they had a higher excess . anywonr getting a quote be certain you are comparing apples with apples . they seem to offer a less than fresh one .

milomo, Mar 10, 1:03pm
Well said Grantm. Poppy has got lesser cover, not cheaper cover. The Vero policy covers all risks for buildings and accidental damage for contents. I haven't read the motor vehicle policy.

Even the ads are crap, a guy taking stones out of a bucket saying we pay for assumptions, I am assuming Youi wouldn't be interested in settling a claim easily either. The satisfied customers they show in their ads look pretty grim also.

YOUI do not do agreed value cover so you will be in poo creek if you manage to total one of your cars, or for that matter any item that's insured. From my investigations its almost impossible to get the same or better cover from YOUI and pay less than you are now. According to Consumer the YOUI premiums in Auckland are almost $10,000 (yes ten thousand! ) per year dearer than other companies. I'd love to hear from anyone who has made a claim on a YOUI policy or for that matter from anyone who has had to do repair work for YOUI

Someone came on here and said that they were on high incurance premiums previously because of bad family driving record. They saved on Youi, too. If your son is likely to have had several minor insurance claims or multiple driving offenses, your premiums would be more expensive normally if you cover him as well, wouldn't they? - I'd be cjhecking the Youi fine print very carefully in your case!

zirconium, Mar 11, 6:30am
that would be checking, lol.

jcd1990, Mar 22, 1:36pm

Also a bit weary of the lookalike presenter.

They were pushy with my girlfriend and she went on a some 2 week or monthly plan (can't remember) policy after basically being berated via phone. Was some stupid price, when I found out I phoned them back to cancel for her new period, got a bunch of feet dragging and whatnot. Lost my temper, told them to get it together and do what I was asking; result was attained and switched over to a provider that wasn't acting so sub par.

The goddamn phonecalls though, their sales people were definitely trained by a nigerian prince going through estate issues with no living relatives.

My daughter was involved in an accident nearly 3 week's ago where the other party was insured with Youi. After trying regulary for 10 working days to contact them, (no answer on their phone and leaving messages) she has given up and told the other party to let her know if they can make contact. She admit's fault, no problem there.

Tkanks I wouldn't even bother ringing them for quote. I know all I need to know from here.
