Kraft gran what did you buy exactly? If it is genuinely not the current model and you weren't told there's a can of worms to open. But if it's current then it makes no difference really.
So, what exactly did you buy?

tgray, Jul 7, 7:22am
What year does the REG state? (as per post 24).
Unless it was a model change year, you may find you have exactly the same features etc as a 2014 one.

tgray, Jul 7, 7:24am
Not necessarily true.

1st reg 06/2014

tgray, Jul 7, 7:31am
OK, so it is deemed to be a 2014 car according to NZ law, regardless of model year or build year. (see my previous posts).
Please tell us what it is? It will be the final piece of the puzzle.

Honda civic 1st reg 06/2014

tgray, Jul 7, 7:35am
I am not a Honda man, but have you googled the differences from both years?

kraftygran, Jul 7, 7:51am
yes that is why I'm so disappointed!

tgray, Jul 7, 9:25am
Ok I hear you.
Well, the answer to your original post is no, as it is regarded as a 2014 car. Prior to 2007, this would not have been the case.

OK - just out of curiosity, and I now understand what tg has posted.
But, when was it built?

I don't know how Honda's work, but there will be something in the VIN # that indicates the year. Or there might be a decoder on line.

gunhand, Jul 7, 3:43pm
So, you bought it online? was it via TM or the likes? Was there pictures and a description of car including features? You must of been happy with what you were buying at the time one would think?
I'm sure the dealer will be happy to re do a deal and you pay extra for the newer model with the features you want but didn't realize were not in the one you got. How long ago did buy it?

Here ya go krafty.

I reckon if you bought a listed 2014 car, and it's proven to be a 2013, you have an argument.

lookoutas, Jul 7, 4:41pm
It looks like the 10th digit of the VIN is the year, but it doesn't give the month or date of manufacture.

tgray, Jul 7, 5:14pm
No, as per previous posts. By New Zealand's definition, it IS a 2014 car.

lookoutas, Jul 7, 5:21pm
I know the dealer has done nothing wrong. Just hasn't stated all the facts.

poppy62, Jul 7, 6:17pm
Hi mate! as you well know, the Rego sticker on the front screen displays (a) the make/model and Year of the car and (b) the date of the first NZ registration. For me if the car was built/ assembled in Dec /14 and first rego-ed in (say) Feb/15 doesn't make it a 2015 model, or is this incorrect. I am of the understanding that the build date is affixed upon the final check marked as "Passed". I stand to be corrected.

poppy62, tgray keeps saying what is law in NZ and what was agreed upon way back in 2007. Tgray is absolutely correct. It is a contentious issue admittedly.
However also to clarify most manufacturers do not update every year, to think they update each year shows a limited understanding of car manufacturing. When you go to trade in or sell your car it will be regarded as a 2014 model. No harm no foul. Not worth getting upset over.
