Yeah it was way too dear, especially with the fieldays pricing having just come out being over $10k cheaper. New SR5 now starts at $44k which is more reasonable for a totally outdated vehicle like a Hilux.

That's why I don't buy one some people get massive discounts from Toyota then the next guy gets ripped a new one.

just put hard lid, tow bar, nudge bar, tuff deck, reversing camera on my new ranger and all that only came to 4k

That is correct so I have not bought one but a good friend of mine got 25% of and did so horses for courses. If you can get Toyotas big discounts then they are worth buying. I just have never been able to.

Interesting in regards to hilux. Tritons were just about given away at 39990 plus navaras are the same yet toyota still selling and people are still silly enough to pay close to full retail for what is a dinosaur
Because you all seem to know about this - weve got a 2009 Triton which we really like and it hasnt done anything wrong yet but - What do you do about the surging throttle? Ours dosent do it often and only in overdrive? and its really annoying. and What is the carbon problem some of you have mentioned? Thanks.

Spend a few hours reading the newtriton.net forums. The surging throttle is a recurring theme.

the surge described is most commonly fixed by replacing the sticking suction control valve on diesel pump, this is easily checked by checking fuel pressure against target and rpm. As for the carbon it is not a issue but a maintenance item. due to strict emmision laws diesels run a huge amount of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), as a result the inlet manifold becomes blocked with carbon requiring it to be removed and cleaned around 60-80 ks. signs it needs doing is a noticable lack of power. smoking and a surge at approx 2500rpm.

Thanks for telling us that, looks like a couple of jobs for next weekend, we never even thought of looking at a forum, Mrs Articferrit.

I wouldn't recommend doing manifold at home as fuel pipes need to leak tested after removal to ensure they are not leaking under rocker cover
