to the nearest 5c would make it about $10/hour more than any man can afford (remember its on a sliding scale, the more you earn, the more it'll cost)

Richardm althought his may come across as euro bashing I do have to say that you are better off with a mid 30's Asian model.
you will find that they usually have been fastidiously maintained in their early life.Often its possible to get a full service history.
You will also find that they are unlikely to have been thrashed.
You will get many years of solid reliable service from them.

poppy62, Aug 13, 7:21am
Hey Richard "coming out" may be a cheaper and less stressful option.

tmenz, Aug 13, 7:59am
If it is a European model it will probably need to be properly serviced by VAG.

desertcolt07, Aug 13, 8:00am
half

brapbrap8, Aug 13, 8:26am
If it has funny coloured fluids, run a mile. It is a sign it has been serviced by idiots.
The size of airbags fitted to a euro model is usually better than you get on the eastern variants though, which is important to some people.

kazbanz, Aug 13, 8:27am
that would require the use of specialist equipment imported from Europe.
You will find that the average kiwi doesn't posess that specialist gear.
Whereas the average Asian unit appears to be able to be serviced to full satisfaction by any kiwi.

kazbanz, Aug 13, 8:28am
BUT the good news is that the Asian models can easily be retrofitted with different size airbags,.

brapbrap8, Aug 13, 8:31am
Yes I can appreciate a tastefully modified asian ride.

tamarillo, Aug 13, 9:46am
Yes but they can't get national radio, and the instructions are in an Asian language.
Jeez hard enough in English.

purple666, Aug 13, 10:14am
Get a rental, there is nothing faster, no ongoing maintenance costs and you can have the latest model every time to need one. They gave them a damn good valet after the last time out. If you have a problem then you get a replacement right away.

pge, Aug 13, 10:15am
Doesn't matter what language is installed -- they ALL are programmed to react only to the sound of their own outputs.

Yours are completely superfluous --- to them.

Have you forgotten:-
"If a man is alone in the forest, and hears a tree fall -- is he still wrong?"

kazbanz, Aug 13, 11:40am
That is definitely incorrect information. A good Asian is able to accept multiple information imput and instructions are in clear English. They are also much more versatile when it comes to language imput. No need for a full reboot with every use.

kazbanz, Aug 13, 11:43am
For gosh sake man where do you get all this totally incorrect information from. The wife/rental interface has never worked in an agreeable manner.
In fact wholesale shedding of airbags is pretty much on the cards . Allong with shedding of all other assets

kazbanz, Aug 13, 12:07pm
Of course the best source is an import model that has already been through the NZ compliance process and done a few miles in NZ.

elect70, Aug 13, 1:03pm
All depends on the credit card limit . My ex had a black belt in spending my money

bwg11, Aug 13, 1:27pm
Where is intrade when we need him. I would like to have mine re-mapped.

kazbanz, Aug 13, 1:37pm
Im told theres a few guys want to have theirs rebored and resleeved

jmma, Aug 13, 2:23pm
Get a Euro one, cheap as chips and you get great milage out of them, so I am told (o:

kazbanz, Aug 13, 2:29pm
it has already been clearly established that this is not the case.
For a starter warranty costs on a euro are HUGE.
Basic maintainence is out of this world.
Now an Auzzie model might be worth a look.

seadubya, Aug 13, 2:30pm
If the engine note doesn't drive you up the wall.

edangus, Aug 13, 2:37pm
Quick question, are you intending to be with this model for an extended period? Or is it simply a "will do for now" runabout.
Invariably the costs work out the same as there are many "training" & "oops I made a mistake" expenses in the first 3 - 5 years.

kazbanz, Aug 13, 2:44pm
Do you refer to the constant drone from earlier models?

kazbanz, Oct 15, 8:32pm
the problem is you end up "stuck" with the "for now" model so you are always better to have one you are happy with long term even if its a "for now" example
