Can anyone QUICKLY tell me what the running costs are for an early 30s, caucasian 'kiwi-as' lady, tertiary educated, 5 years work experience in retail and 10 in a trade, likes vegetarian food and overseas travel.

To the nearest 5c thanks.

I know this is easy for you motoring types, you've got a website where you can just look it up right?

Don't even think about it, just hand over your wallet and and smile.
Much easier that way.

Just asking the question puts the rate up something shocking!

Get a rental or fully maintained lease option

I know that from about 12 onwards the maintenance costs rocket upwards exponentially each year.
Age + (d x y) x (D + C + H + Hy) =
(where d = dollars you earn/own, y = each year older than current age of said woman, D = diamonds, C = car, H = house, Hy = holidays).
You are looking down the barrel at a left kidney or similar value.
Good luck.
Other more experienced folk (I'm only married for 41 years now), may be able to expand on the formula.

Do you want a breakdown in running costs per kilometer, or per hairdo, per pair of shoes or just per week. Does it include things like marriage certificates, fine dining or takeaways.
If so we need extra info. Dress size, shoes size, distance travelled each week, number of shoes already in wardrobe. Probably lots of other things to factor in as well. Its a bit like asking what the running costs of a red car are compared to a blue car!

Borrow the neighbours, for servicing at least, they get it right, and run a lot cheaper.

socram, Aug 12, 5:32pm
I think you'll find that it was an easy calculation - until you mentioned the overseas travel bit.
Totally agree with #6.
As a rough guideline, cost rises exponentially with the amount of time taken to get ready to go out for the evening after coming in from doing the gardening or other grubby work, so that includes shower and change.

Fifteen minutes is economical, anything over 15 minutes, is a good indicator as to rapidly increasing costs.

Better to just call in a 'temp' when the need arises. Usually tax-deductable if you do it the right way.

trogedon, Aug 12, 5:44pm
Reads like you should add a couple of babies into the mix before two long. It'll cut down on the overseas travel at least.

id get a pre purchase inspection, things can become loose in the older models and the younger models will be a little tighter all around.
you get high milage number and you could be up for very high maintenance costs, these are ongoing as well.
the newer models will be covered by cga.

Just be wary of imports. some may have had parts removed.

mrfxit, Aug 12, 6:11pm
LOL . ouch

mrfxit, Aug 12, 6:17pm
The costs don't seem to change all that much but where you have to spend your money certainly changes over time.
Theres certain advantages to hiring verses outright purchase, but borrowing can get expensive really fast if certain precautions are not taken.
Past owners can sometimes be a real hassle as well
Not even safe with new & untouched models.
They need a comprehensive learning curve to figure out how to drive them at a sensible pace.
Straying off the beaten path is really easy with those new models.

Shiny new ones are most likely to be stolen, need constant reinforcement and regular polishing, but a bush bashing heap will steal your undies, eat your lunch and leave a puddle when you park it. Go for a mid range model, with tight pockets so they can only take one card at a time, but don't forget that a big bumper can be dangerous too since the other fullahs are more likely to take their eyes off the road.

Depends on how much action she has had with previous owners. If previously given too much of a pounding (especially off-road) she may have developed chassis sag, even leaks.

Ahhhh chaps!. happy wife. happy life.

Funny

Daughter: "Dad, there is something my boyfriend said to me that I don't understand. He said that I have a beautiful chassis, lovely airbags and a fantastic bumper."
Dad: "Tell your boyfriend that if he opens your bonnet and tries to check your oil with his dipstick, I will tighten his nuts so hard that his headlights will pop out and he will start leaking from his exhaust pipe."

50% of the value of the house you bought before you ever knew her. C/o matrimonial properties act.

More expense if they want to adjust their headlights and to much rich food can make for nasty exhaust fumes (o:

As in most cases, Asian imports will offer better value than flogged out domestic models. You may find the 'seating position' short on 'legroom' vs NZ model, but will grow to appreciate the snug cockpit .

3588434, Aug 12, 8:07pm
Cheaper if you make sure to keep it lubed.

exwesty, Aug 12, 8:36pm
Some of the front ends may also be full of bog.

gsimpson, Aug 13, 3:12am
Or parts there you didn't expect.
