Best place in Auckland to sort out Chassis Heave?

spudster, Jun 25, 5:19am
Can anyone tell me where I can get this done properly in Auckland. I can get it sandblasted but would prefer the get the heave sort first before sandblasting. Cheers

Haven't had a need for it myself but I have heard that TSL in Albany are set up to test Chassis heave.

Chassis heave? What's that?
My mate has a coroliner if you need a chassis straightened.

On a double skinned chassis, rust forming between the skins. Common on truck chassis.

Oh never heard that one before. How do you fixit?

I'd be leaving it to the pros. I would assume heavy vehicle smash repair specialists would have a means of separating the skins somehow, to access the affected area. I believe it's certainly repairable, however as I'm not in the trade, not sure how involved it is. The limit of my knowledge in this area is knowing what the term means and understanding what it is.

They separate the chassis skins and heat up so the rust pops and then it is removed somehow.

Just use 2 hammers ,hold a small sledge hammer on 1 side of chassis rail then hit other side with like a 2 pound hammer the rust will break up and come out from the between the chassis rails the cof inspectors use to go spastic about it on the old farm trucks and also sometimes made you cut off the rivets mounting the spring hanger brackets ,clean rust from under them then bolt them back on.Then paint chssis black to cover the rust marks. To pull the chassis apart would cost more than the vehicle is worth.

Should be able to get a certificate to go to a maximum
Of 10mm of heave had that on the last Hino I was driving
We were going to use a old type rivet gun to flattened it out
Just never go round to it

You don't heat chassis rails, the whole truck has to be stripped, chassis split apart and sand blasted, painted and then reassembled, it is not a small job.

Did my own Tm Bedford mongrel of a job .
