So on the hunt for a replacement budget car (under $4k etc). While there are some on here and I've seen a couple of budget end dealers for trade-ins, where else are the places to look?
Are there any weekend car fairs or side of the road places worth a drive by where they seem to be parked, totally against bylaws I know but it does happen lol. Or even fleet disposals etc?
Looking for total unicorn, reliable reasonable condition small hatch or wagon without excessive milage but not the tiny hatches so common now, want room for a large suitcase lying down when needed and not on the backseat. Or the mythical elderly owner car in great nick lol. Hating all the hunting around but ya gotta do it on a tight budget.

Thanks tamarillo. I might have to have a closer look, it is one on my watchlist. TBH, a little nervous about Astras or Vectra as I know of two that have had major issues. One was a "Friday" car that had constant issues from day 1 ex-factory brand new, the other was a Astra and had massive electronic issues that cost a couple of grand and 3 mechanics (including top ones, not cowboys) to finally find a quirkly faulty sensor that was causing the car to randomly loose all power which was pretty dangerous.
Did the yards today, mainly budget ones, pretty damn depressing really. I think the last time I replaced about 8 years ago you got better for same budget, well we did then and the time before that too.

Try El-Cheapo in Porirua. Good to deal with, bought two cars thru them.

Just got home from golden bay. Stayed with friends who I found an Astra wagon for a few years back, same style as this one. They live down 3 km bad gravel drive which he uses 4 times a day at least and often lots more, and doesn't look after cars at all. Tows big trailer with medium load over takaka hill often. It's going beautifully, not a squek or noise or problem. This guy has killed corollas so I'm impressed. Every car has a bad news story, and they aren't toyotas its true, but then you get a car with half the milage of a Toyota for the money so should be at least as reliable if not more.
