Need to find the right buyer. To me its worth 4 Bananas and two weeks of belly button lint, but to the next guy it could be a classic.

seadubya, Jul 19, 11:52am
As a classic car, not much, probably only a few thousand dollars if it needs a paint, but young rwd enthusiasts seem to be paying them a bit of attention so probably more to the right person. Levin car club should be able to put you on to a valuer to look at it and give you a better idea of value.

anything more than 30 years old is allowed in the vintage car club, Perhaps someone there could help. Or you could ring Otaki auto services. There is a bloke there who races one

Not having a go at the OP at all. in fact I rather like the little Chevettes, but I can't help being slightly amused by the majority of people who, if they find themselves in possession of any vehicle pre about 1985, they automatically assume it's a classic and is therefore a gold mine. Cars of any age are only worth what the market is willing to pay, and some will (or at least should) remain at fairly modest values. Not all older cars are desirable. Think Morris Marina as an example lol! Some were pigs when new, and always will be, regardless of age, or supposed 'classic' status. Over 40 years does not always a classic make. you just get cheaper rego.

Again I stress, not directed in any way at the OP, just using the related thread to chuck my ponderings out there. Best of luck with the sale OP. ;-)

Vauxhall Chevettes are what people had before good cars like Honda Civics, Mazda Familias and Toyota Corollas/Levins etc came along. You might be able to find someone who is still holding a candle for them and really wants to relive their childhood in yours?

I can remember the Poxhall Shitettes being a modern, racy wee beast compared to the Poxhall Vulvas, with their ball tearing 1300cc powerplants. and yes I had both cars for a while, gave me no problems. I wouldn't mind a Vulva again to go back to total simplicity. think mine had an 1100cc donk, remember a drag race with a mates diesel bongo was neck and neck lol. still rather have a Vulva than some eurotrash to drive round in now.Often wonder how reliable they would be nowadays with modern oils, electronic ign etc fitted. at least you could do a lot of work on one in your own back yard.

You could try here, a few people are still looking for them. http://oldschool.co.nz/2011/forum/

There's one in Palmy for $1500 and one in Auck for $3500

toyboy3, Jul 19, 2:14pm
The Morris Marina TC coupe is a classic !

msigg, Jul 19, 2:53pm
approx $2000

franc123, Jul 19, 3:18pm
2000-3000 if it can easily pass wof and there is no obvious areas of expenditure needed, with the exception of the paint.

gsimpson, Jul 19, 3:42pm
Modern oils and filters (esp air filter) sure helps the older cars. Electronic ignition helps too.

franc123, Jul 19, 4:17pm
Electronic ignition, specifically a Lumenition kit or even better a system from another car was one of the single best improvements you could make to a Shoveit, apparently it was possible to fit an early Civic distributor to them with minor mods. The factory distributors were shyte, the timing scatter was atrocious.

Way back when these things were new,we ran Chevy hatchbacks as company cars. I would have done quarter of a million K's in 2 of them.
They handled reasonably well, but were a bit short in the horsepower department.
We called them "shove its". and we loved them.
What are they worth today. ? Hmmm probably SFA.

franc123, Jul 19, 4:55pm
The old Viva motor was certainly the worst part, the chassis was well capable of taking more power, those that rallied them proved that. It should have had the 1600 that was in the Gemini but I suppose GM didn't want that from a marketing perspective.

This particular one is worth a tidy sum. Very beautiful. Great to see these 'real' rally cars still around and in one piece.

In Rotorua Spence's Appliances ran a couple of Chevette hatchbacks in full company livery as appliance delivery / servicing vehicles well into the 1990s.

some people haven't got anything better to do than place smart remarks etc on here what a dull life they must have if this is all they have to do all I was wanting to know was what it would be worth to-day being nearly a vintage so gmphil don't see what there is to laugh and not for sale
