I keep getting these strange urges.

Along slightly different lines hubby tells the story of how he used to help his mate with a bit of mechanical work at times, and they did up and got a Humber Hawk up and running. It was his mates daily driver. Anyway the mate was a bit of an entrepreneur and setup a concert with bands and all sorts out in the country a bit from Rotorua. Sold a few hundred tickets. Needed beer for the concert so aside from making several kegs of 'rocket fuel home brew' they went into town in the Hawk to buy some beer. Pulls up that the wholesale and told the boys they wanted 9 kegs. Guys say "Where you going to put that? " "In the car!" . Hubby and mate took out the rear seat and stuffed 8 x 50 litre kegs in the back then put the seat back on top. They put the last keg in the footwell on the passenger side at the front. He says the entire team at the wholesale forwent their smoko break just to watch. Reckons the car was 'A bit down on the springs'. Drove off and got pulled up by the cops who looked, shook their heads and left muttering to themselves. Classic. Must have been a half ton load in there ! Solild car those Humber Hawks.

Fishy they were so popular back in the 80's.
Those rotary engines made the RX7s sound like lawn mowers.
Get a Mustang instead :)

RX 7 with subaru nat atmos engine - sound = Jaopanese accented vroom vrooom vrooom instead of the thumpy nah-nah-nah-nah- break wind of a rotary.

So do it. The driving on the right thing is no biggie.

time to titrate your meds OR put your head in a gumboot

1 of several mods in recent years I dream about would be an RX8 + Mitsi 3.5 twin turbo Mivec v6 + 6sp box
( 6G74, 24-valve, Mivec DOHC)
Cheap to run/ smooth/ plenty of power/ reliable

Each vehicle I buy, I have a back up plan for the engine.
The van would be transplanted with a QD27 or maybe even a QD32 depending on overall cost per hp result etc
Currently a lowly but reliable TD27 non turbo

I have always wanted to buy an RX7 S1,2, or 3 and drop an 8 in to it.
I had a S4 with a 305 chev in it, but sold it. I like the earlier shape more.
Wasnt that long ago you could pick one up for 7 or 8k. Now every ones asking 20k for them. I'd never pay that for one so RX7's are off my shopping list. Keep dreaming of a C5 or a C6 Corvette. Thats probably my next fun car once I get some of the mortgage paid off. Just curious Shelleigh, what do you drive?

I'm a Ford girl Fishy and drive a Fiesta.
Haven't had an auto before and it's a huge improvement on the autos I drove every now and then back in the 80's.
Great fun driving it places like the Lindis Pass with all the corners as it has plenty of pep, well for me, and sits really well on the road.

I've only ever owned 10y.o cars or older, I'm 43, never owned a Ute and I've decided I'm going to buy a brand new one, I don't really need one but I want one, part of it will be whacked on the mortgage but I'll pay it off at low interest over the next 5 yrs and probably drive the Ute for the next 20, luckily just started a new job with a BT50 work Ute which is what I'm looking at, so far it hasn't put me off.
